| Heart Worm Med?????? I am starting Maddie on heartworm medicine this year. My current vet only offers heartguard. However, I do not like the dosage guidelines. I have read about Interceptor on here. I am wondering what brands you all have used and seem pleased with. __________________________ I MADDIE ! |

| I used to use revolution- but started reading some not so good things about it- although layla never had a reaction. This year we will be switching to interceptor. ALL i want is a heart worm med- i don't want all the flea stuff that goes with many- Layla is not an "outdoorsey" kinda gal so I just want the basic. I'm not sure if it is the same in US as in Canada but i had to find a vet that sold Interceptor and now I have to go have an appointment there- I guess they can't sell it to you without seeing the dog first- however Layla had her heartworm test a few weeks ago at her normal vet which is fine with the office we are buying the Interceptor from. |

| Piper has taken Interceptor since she was 12 weeks old. She is now 10 months and has never had a problem with it. Interceptor is good for heartworm, hookworm, roundworms and whipworms. The pill is very tiny good for dogs 2-10lbs.

| Interceptor is considered the safest for toy breeds by many people. The dosage is more accurate with an under 10 pound pill available. Heartguard has been linked to seizures, mostly in Collies, but why take a chance? |

| I prefer Interceptor for small dogs but the dosage is not better. As far as I know, the safeheart dose is 1/5 of what we give. The extra 4/5 of milbemycin oxime (active ingredient in Interceptor) was added to treat intestinal parasites.

| I use revolution on cookie and i like the fact that i dont have to give her two different medicines. Just on her back in between the shoulder blades once a month...That's it. She has never had a reaction from it. Hope this helps. Also it is weight adjusted for dogs under 5lbs. |

| I had all of mine on sentinel which is a monthly pill but, it's only for heartworm and fleas. With having 5-6 dogs on it though, it got way too expensive, so, now, they're on k-9 advantix (little ones) and advantage multi for the 2 outside dogs. I really am nervous about using anything on my little one, but, need too, as when her harness dress gets here, I'll be taking her outside so she can get some fresh air. Does anyone else have a little one under 3 lbs that they put flea meds on, and if so, what do you use and how do they do on it? |
