Omg it seems like you are talking about my Daisy, people say they w`ont starve, but she will even vomit bile, and I just don`t know what to do. |
babydaisy.... In the past I have had to deal with that...what is funny is that for the past couple of days she hasnt done which i found odd.. Trust me. My mom would come from work at around 4:30 teling me that abby has the shakes and that she saw some yellow vomit on the floor... I would freak out and tell her to PUHLEASEEEEEE give her nutrical and some food cause she is STARVING.... she saw that my mOther woukd freak out and give her yummy food she would do it on purpose... well guess what since no one paid any attention to her she doesnt do the shakes or the vomiting. Now my problem is that she just FLAT OUT REFUSES to eat.... I am telling you my baby is just too smart lol .... |

BTW, seems I have to feed my babies every 4 hours, they can tell time. I recently went on vacation and the groomer kinda taught my babies to eat right away and have their last meal around 7-8PM. |
Good luck!!! I have never had this problem...Winston eats very well. I agree with some of the others...find one food and stick to it. Only offer treats after she has eaten her food, like a dessert. This alone just might entice her. I think she's happy to see you when you get home from work, she misses you, that's why she wants to play. Give her 15 minutes or so, of play time, before her meal. Have her eat with you, while you eat...then dessert, then more play time, maybe it will give her something to look forward to. Again, I hope these suggestions help make your home and life happy!!! |

Okay, let me say this in all earnestness-THE HONEST KITCHEN I mean, oh yeah!!!! I just read through this long long thread, and all I can say is- THE HONEST KITCHEN I had the EXACT problem as you. Cassie would not eat. She would not eat home cooking with supplements, She picked at her food, was uninterested. I have a toy chest full of food I bought her from Blue Buffalo to Wellness and everything in between. I have a closet full of every supplement known to the dog world, and then some. She would not eat. Then I read something on here about The Honest Kitchen. I thought I would give it a try, because I was desperate like you. I even tried the raw medallians, which she actually loved, but she kept throwing up from them, so I could not feed them to her. I now feed her the Force. She is 2 lbs full grown. I also have another teeny one, 2.6 lbs full grown. They both eat the Force. I mix a quarter cup of the Force with warm organic chicken soup and let rest for 10 minutes. Then I add an equal amount of whatever I feel like adding, maybe a quarter cup of cooked ground lamb, or chicken, or salmon, or whatever. This last step is purely optional. I also give them the Force with nothing else added or maybe a slice of American Cheese, whatever. This keeps their diet varied, while giving them all the nutrition they need, and I don't have to add supplements. YAY!!!!! And boy do they eat!!!!!!!! They stuff their little faces until they are about to burst. Also, I do not watch them. I put them in a room with the food (other than the kitchen), close the door, and come back at a later time. The food is usually always eaten somewhat. I'm not saying they finish the whole thing all at once. But I leave it down all day, and they snack on it till the next morning. Usually I feed them twice a day. If they leave some breakfast over, I throw it out and make a new batch for dinner. That stays over night. They usually eat most of it by morning. I am telling you this food saved my dogs life. It is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. I really hope it works for you. After I bought it, I was determined not to switch to another food, no matter what. The food is wholesome, human grade, tastey. That is what they're getting, and I refused to change it. I just left it in their room, and voila! They ate it. I must add we do not give them any table food that is not mixed in with The Honest Kitchen Food. They often get human home cooked food, but only when mixed in with the Force. Now I can breath a sigh of relief, and so does grandma and grandpa, because they were the biggest culprits of all in giving the babies table food, which they always held out for. Now they know better and the girls have never looked better. Their coats are shiney, their breath smells sweet, and I have stopped worrying and started learning how to dance!!!!!!!!!!:-):):D |
omg! i have to try the honest kitchen if it's a miracle like the above poster said! :p milu is very picky eater, and i got all the same type of advice you received but still it was really hard for me, because i just can't starve her to teach her a lesson. i couldn't do it! no matter how many people suggested that was the right thing to do. milu is now 3 lbs. and i am very proud of her lol :D she still doesn't like to eat all that much, but we've compromised. i feed her NV raw medallions. and since she does like human food, what i would do is cut up chicken or beef or cheess into tiny tiny little pieces, i prepare her food one bite at a time. i put the topping on her raw food, and she would eat it, and when she gets tired of that topping, i would change it to another topping, so yes, sometimes i would have to go through 3 different toppings just to feed her one medallion, and yes it's a lot of work, but at least she is eating. and somewhat happy about her food. i know it's not the best to feed human food. but i feel like what i am doing is ok, since i am not giving her too much human food. she is still pretty darn skinny, but i am not as worried about her now. :) and it's a good feeling! ;) |
Did she eat this morning!!???? I sure hope so, I thought of you while feeding Snickers last night & this morning!! You are so right, they are so stinkin smart, it amazes me!! GOOD LUCK TODAY, remember to stay calm, she feeds off your emotions and go nuts after she eats...have a PARTY!!! Jump up and down and show her mommy is so happy!! |

Sorry for not posting sooner... I am at work LOL... broodizt, I think we prob have the dogs from the same litter... LOL... they sound exactly the same... I actually am gonna drop off all the canned and dry food I have in my house to the Animal Haven Shelter by my house because its rediculous!! I have powders, supplements, vitamins and oils and ITS ALL GONE TO WASTE.... I have ordered the samples from the Honest Kitchen and Halo and lets see what happens... And you know I tried putting those toppings on her food when I used to give her Stella and Chewys Freeze Dried and she wasnt haveing it either... She doesnt like beef, lamb , or fish... All she likes is CHICKEN... Chicken hearts, chicken breast, chicken thigh... LOL... BUT I do want to fonish the bag of Solid Gold Wee bits first.... I do nto like leaving that wet food out all day as it gets hard and dry and she doesnt eat it anyway.... Trust me I have left it out all day and then at dinner time I leave it out for her... And she ONLY eats if i am standing close to her or sittiing next to her... if i move she mves... she is like my shadow... LOL viviansnickers, Yes she DID eat this morning!! Yay!! Maybe it would help if she had less distractions when she's supposed to be eating. With Lucas we close his little gate and take out the toys so he can focus on eating ( he gets distracted by anything). Maybe she'd just rather play, and since she has the option, eating doesn't seem so important to her.:) |
This is crazy. Your dogs are working you all. Add this, boil this, try this, try that, and the dogs still won't eat. She'll only eat if I'm standing next to her. No wonder you're frustrated!! Come on, give me a break. Find a food that you're confortable with. Put it down for 15 minutes. If it's not eaten by then take it away until the next meal. Just walk over and pick it up, don't make a big fuss about it. Don't let her feel your frustration with the situation. It may take a couple of days of missed meals but she'll come to realize that you're through jumping through hoops just to find a food that she won't eat anyway. She won't die missing a couple of meals. Put it down, take it away in 15 minutes, that's all there is to it. period! Have you had her teeth checked lately? If she's having pain in the mouth she won't want to eat. |

Cry I know what you are going through Jack was the same way I would cry and want to give up. I bought all kinds of good food for him and FINALLy I gave him cod-liver oil it puts weight on them its called "Nordic Naturals Artic Cod Liver oil with Omega 3-supplements. Its for skin and hair but its 45-calories. Well it has made a difference he only eats "chicken soup for the soul" kibbles and I boil vegtables, and give him treats during t he day. I'd say most Yorkie owners have experienced this:rolleyes: We went through this not so long ago with Maddie. She wanted people food and no kibble. I was at my wits end and didn't know what to do. I finally had to practice tough love. She begged for food while we ate dinner but refused to touch her kibble. After abouta week or so, and my sticking to one food, she finally started eating again. In my attempts to love her, I spoiled her in the process and made her rotten. Being a good mommy is a hard job...butoh so worth it!:p ____________________ I:love:Maddie:aimeeyork!! |
there are a lot of advice on the thread about being tough and being strict. i agree with it to a certain extent. i mean, it your yorkie is not too skinny and can afford to not eat for that long. milu is very skinny, so if i were to take the food away, then i need to either feed her nutri-cal or force feed her 'something'. i did try that take away food if she doesn't want it method. (my vet told me to do that) but milu was fine with not eating. and became hypoglycemic and scared me to death. that's why i stopped doing the "eat this or eat nothing" trick. it doesn't work for all dogs. i understand the frustration when your fur baby won't eat. don't worry too much if the puppy is not TOO skinny, but be careful if she is already really skinny. |

Update... Hey guys, Well guess what she doesn't want to eat the Solid Gold Wee bits at all anymore. She is actually hardly eating any dog food. I even tried mixing a little bit of Canine Caviar (had one can left) with her hard food and she just wont eat anything. Today I received my samples from The Honest Kitchen... so lets see what happens. I will feed her some of that and hopefully she would like it... I have no idea what I am gonna do anymore if she doesnt like The Honest Kitchen or Halo... I am so stressed about this I really do not want to force feed food... Hanging in there, Rebecca :cry: |

Well, The Honest Kitchen - FAILURE She smelled it and just walked away... She has lost weight because of me practicing tough love... This is becoming to difficult for me to deal with. I literally do not know what to do anymore. I have tried everything and she just wont have it. And as for exercise i play fetch in side my apartment so get her running until she is exhausted LOL I do not walk her because it is freezing out here and I kow she would freeze outside LOL... Plus she hates boots so her being in the snow/ rain is a no no... In the spring and summer i do walk her twice a day... O god, I really am going to lose my mind... Rebecca |

I have found Nutri Cal can be a problem, its like kids eating candy before they eat their meal, they tend to NOT want to eat when I give Nutri Cal. Lil Sis pulled that on us, once we stopped Nutri Cal she actually eats now. Her breakfast she eats scrambled egg/cheese not much but thats her breakfast. She gets Eagle Pack Dry Chicken Rice out at all times. Then she gets boiled Chicken at 5:30 and she gets more boiled chicken at bedtime. She is under 2 lbs and is 9 months old. I know how frustrating and worriesome it can be. I also tend to forget how they don't eat as much as a bigger Yorkie. |
I'm so sorry to hear she's still not eating. I had really hoped you'd have some success with your new methods. I'm having some of the same trouble with Thor, though not nearly to the same degree. My trouble with him is that I do a lot of obediance training, and we've definitely had some "treat inflation". He used to think carrots were treats. Now he turns down cheese. What dog doesn't love cheese? Now that we in high gear potty training, we're going into treat hyper-inflation. The only thing he reliably eats is sauteed meat - sausage, chicken, turkey, anything like that. Of course this constipates him dreadfully so I try to mix in some type of veggie or beans to keep him regular. At this rate, I'm going to have to hope for some manna to fall from heaven. |
Oh, I also wanted to mention: you may want to look around your area and see if there are local "gourmet" food producers. My local pet store has a refrigerator/freezer and some suppliers who hand-cook all their food. I got a free 2-oz sample and Thor wolfed it down. He has awful teeth, so I'm still hoping to get him on kibble at least some of the time. Otherwise, I'd go with that option. |
