How to Make Chicken Jerky for Dogs

Every dog likes treats, but even a Milk Bone must taste dry after a while. There's a very easy way to make a tasty, homemade treat for your dog that you just know will be a hit with any canine that's a fan of chicken. And, best of all, you know exactly what's in it and where it came from. You don't even need a dehydrator.

InstructionsDifficulty: Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Package of chicken breasts
Cookie sheet
Step1Clean the chicken breasts, then carefully slice them into long, thin strips. The thinner the strips are, the better.
Step2Place the strips on a greased or non-stick cookie sheet.
Step3Bake the strips for around 3 hours at 180 degrees. The result will be the same as if it were done in a dehydrator, and there's no need to go out and purchase one. The low temperature will dry the chicken slowly, and you'll have a chewy result that your canine friend will love.
Step4Let the strips cool, out of your dog's reach. They can be stored in plastic bags or in airtight containers, and can also be frozen for future use.

I was worried about giving Gucci Chicken Jerky after reading a post this morning and immediately went to google for the exact same thing! Thanks for sharing - I visited a neighborhood pet store at lunchtime to check out their chicken jerky and yes, they are all made in China. I think I'll try to make some this weekend - he loves them even though he only gets about 1/3 of a piece.

You are all welcome!! I am staying away from everything that is made in China! I plan to make the strips tomorrow.

I think that a dehydrator would work a whole lot better, so if you have one, bonus! I baked strips @170 degrees and flipped them over after the three hour mark and left them in for another hour. Hiro seemed to like them once they cooled. The only thing I am worried about with these is the small bits Hiro could pull off the strips. I've never had the store bought kind cause I was worried about them being made in China, so I don't know how they're supposed to look when chewed... They seemed sufficiently dried and such though.

I made the chicken jerky today, let it cool and gave Prince one. He loved it!!!! And I don't have to worry about the "China" issue. If you make these, make sure you bake them at a very low setting, 180 degrees, for about three hours. Make sure the chicken is sliced very thin. The next time I go to the grocery store, I'm going to see if the butcher can slice them for me.
They came out very flexible, because of the low temp. I was afraid that they would be crumplely, but they weren't.
I used chicken breast.
