How to make chicken jerky for dogs.... I found this online. I haven't tried it yet. . How to Make Chicken Jerky for Dogs By Debra Durkee, eHow Editor Rate: (0 Ratings) Every dog likes treats, but even a Milk Bone must taste dry after a while. There's a very easy way to make a tasty, homemade treat for your dog that you just know will be a hit with any canine that's a fan of chicken. And, best of all, you know exactly what's in it and where it came from. You don't even need a dehydrator. InstructionsDifficulty: Easy Things You’ll Need: Package of chicken breasts Cookie sheet Step1Clean the chicken breasts, then carefully slice them into long, thin strips. The thinner the strips are, the better. Step2Place the strips on a greased or non-stick cookie sheet. Step3Bake the strips for around 3 hours at 180 degrees. The result will be the same as if it were done in a dehydrator, and there's no need to go out and purchase one. The low temperature will dry the chicken slowly, and you'll have a chewy result that your canine friend will love. Step4Let the strips cool, out of your dog's reach. They can be stored in plastic bags or in airtight containers, and can also be frozen for future use. Ads by Google |

Awesome of you to share, thanks! |
Trying this out as I type! I'll report back in a few hours! |
Yay-- can't wait to hear how they turn out! |
Thanks for this!! I have dehydrater, and I'll do it this weekend....Now where did I put the thing???? |
I was worried about giving Gucci Chicken Jerky after reading a post this morning and immediately went to google for the exact same thing! Thanks for sharing - I visited a neighborhood pet store at lunchtime to check out their chicken jerky and yes, they are all made in China. I think I'll try to make some this weekend - he loves them even though he only gets about 1/3 of a piece. Kathy and Gucci |
I have been looking for a chicken jerky recipe!!!! THANK YOU!!!! You rock! |
You are all welcome!! I am staying away from everything that is made in China! I plan to make the strips tomorrow. |
I think that a dehydrator would work a whole lot better, so if you have one, bonus! I baked strips @170 degrees and flipped them over after the three hour mark and left them in for another hour. Hiro seemed to like them once they cooled. The only thing I am worried about with these is the small bits Hiro could pull off the strips. I've never had the store bought kind cause I was worried about them being made in China, so I don't know how they're supposed to look when chewed... They seemed sufficiently dried and such though. |
I made the chicken jerky today, let it cool and gave Prince one. He loved it!!!! And I don't have to worry about the "China" issue. If you make these, make sure you bake them at a very low setting, 180 degrees, for about three hours. Make sure the chicken is sliced very thin. The next time I go to the grocery store, I'm going to see if the butcher can slice them for me. They came out very flexible, because of the low temp. I was afraid that they would be crumplely, but they weren't. I used chicken breast. |
Has anyone tried this yet!!! What are your thoghts1 |
I'm going to make some probably sometime this week. YAY!!! Treats I can make myself and I know they'll love it! |
Would this recipe work for cats too? |
This is great thanks. After all the product recall and tainted food issues lately, this will be great! |

Chicken Jerky Today I gave the Chicken Jerky recipe a shot. I used only one chicken breast just in case it didn't come out and I have to tell you that Gucci loves it! I was worried that it might be too hard, but it isn't. Looks just like the strips in the store. I think I might have a chance at training Gucci to come to me now! |
Prince just finished the first bunch (one chicken breast). I plan to fix 3 breasts this week and freeze. I'll keep 3-4 in the fridge. |

Yes, they are pretty chewy...they're the same texture as the store bought, but of course, without the worries. Depending on how thin you slice them, you'll probably get abought 10-13 per chicken breast. I'm doing his second batch right now, but I've sliced 2 breasts this time, to save gas. They freeze well. |

Do you slice them when they are partially frozen? Sounds like you get a lot out of one breast. |
:pNo, I didn't slice them when they were partially frozen, but, that is a good idea. I think it would slice easier that way...I'll try that next time. Yes, you do get a lot from one breast because they are sliced so thin. What do yo think about the turkey breask jerky? Or even beef jerky, although I think the chicken and turkey would be healthier. I try do at least two breast (chicken) at a time, since I have to keep my oven on so long. |
I made one breast and my dogs love them! I actually only had to keep them in for 2 hours. |
Yes, I've been dehydrating meat for Bailey for over a year now. Its great!! I was scared of the China thing too. So, I bought a dehydrator (approx $65). I rotate the trays every hour - and they're done in about 4 hours. I dehydrate turkey, beef and venison. I haven't tried chicken yet - but I will do some this weekend!!! |
Thanks for the recipe I will try it in a day or 2. My hubby make cookies for the babies this week end and they love them. I took a pack of chicken hearts and gizzards and a container of chicken livers. Boiled them on the top of the store then put them in the oven water and all until they fell apart. He then mixed in some oatmeal and dropped them by tea spoon full on pan and baked. They looked just like oatmeal cookies LOL the dogs love them. Betty |
