| valerian root-the vet told me to give it to sammy hi, i went to the vet today for bloodwork for heartworm and i also to ask thevet for something for seperation anxiety and he told me to give sammy valerian root sold at the health food stores. has anyone used this for there dogs? he really did not want to give something like prozac or valium, because he would have to be on that for weeks and weeks. i only have the problem with that when i leave for a fewdays or vacation and one of daughters watch him at there house. he has a real big problem leaving his house and going anywhere , even the car. so, please if anyone has given this , please let me know how it works. thanks so much |

| I use Pet Calm which is herbal. Many say socialization is the key. I don't know what your furbaby's background is, but that could play a part in his being afraid. My answering should bump your question up and maybe someone else will have an idea. You could also post this in the "health," "sick," or maybe "training" section to see if you could get an answer.

| I saw your post and decided to hit Google. I found these treats that have the valerian extract in them. Read this...Dog Treats: Drs. Foster & Smith Ultra-CalmĀ® Biscuits for Dogs

| What about using Rescue Remedy for Dogs? It's to calm them for travel or during storms and is a floral natural remedy also.

| I used to drink valerian tea at night to help with anxiety and sleep. Just make sure the amount is proportionate for her size.

| i have taken valerian root to help relax and sleep. there is a belief that it could be addictive so i limit how much i've used. it does help me relax but i didnt know you could use it on dogs. i guess it might be a weight thing though. |

| I too have used Valerian Root to help with sleep issues. It works. We also give a dose to our 11 y/o ADHD son to help him during the evening hours so he can wind down. Herbs are good things, used correctly.

| a little dab'll do ya Yes, I have taken valerian root many years ago, and I have given my Yorkie herbs over the years but have never tried valerian for my pet, and I think I would be very careful with it. There have been rare adverse effects, i.e.,( heart stopping) for doses that are too big.... d. |
