NV raw causing wet burp? Recently I brought home a little furbaby boy (Orion) and the breeder indicated that I should feed him Bil Jac kibble and frozen. Since I could not find any distributor that carries Bil Jac frozen, I've started to feed him NV raw. He's doing fine on NV raw. However, my little girl (Cassiopia) who also started on NV raw at the same time, been having these wet burps. Just this afternoon she threw-up a small amount of liquid (almost clear in color w/ some slight brownish color to it). Previously I was feeding her Canidate mixed with Wellness wet food. Has anyone experienced this with NV raw? |
I hope you get some answers. Olivia is on a raw grind (but not NV) and she does the same thing, a wet burp and sometimes followed by a bit of spit up. It's almost like the raw grind doesn't sit well on her stomach...? |
Yep, Cassi also has a bit of spit up with the wet burp as well. However, this afternoon was the first time anything actually came out of her mouth and landed on the floor. |
Yes, Nolee has the wet burp also. I never associated it with the NV, but now that I think about it, it has been since the NV. |

I feed NV frozen raw. I started my yorkie and poodle on it about 4 months ago. I also was feeding them evo kibble and tried instinct kibble my yorkie did burp on both. My poodle can eat anything but my yorkie is very picky. So far she tolerates the chicken and rabbit NV frozen and prairie kibble very well. It has taken about 4 months to get her on something she does well with. I find that for my yorkie the frozen need not be to cold. Hope this helps |
Hmmm....I think I will try not serving it straight out of the refrigerator, maybe let it sit out for a few minutes first and see if that helps. It seems to subside an hour or so after she eats. Although it's gross, she does clean it up right away - faster than I can get a cloth and cleaner, she eats it back up. |

I feed raw to both my boys, and they've never done this burping. Is she gulping the food really fast? If so, she may be swallowing too much air, causing burping. To slow her down, someone had a great suggestion the other day - put a golfball in her dish w/ the food. |

Ok, so I've tried the dry kibble with the NV raw and she is still having the wet burp w/ some spit-up. So the following day, I just mixed some Wellness wet food w/ some of her dry kibble (the dry kibble consist of a mix of Natural Balance and Bil-Jac) and this time no NV raw for the whole day. I noticed again that she was having these wet burps w/ spit-up. Perhaps the culprit is Bil-Jac puppy food or she's having the reaction from the food from the previous day? It's so tricky trying to figure out the right diet for them, especially when they are such picky eaters. In any case, I'm going to try another day with the dry kibble mixed with wet food and of course w/out NV raw and see if she's still having the wet burp |
Okay, update on my end - from now on no raw food for my furbabies. Unfortunately it does not appear that Cassi's stomach can handle the raw food. Whereas Orion was doing well. In any case, to make a long story short, yesterday evening Cassi vomited and now I have her on plain boiled chicken and rice diet. After her meal yesterday evening with chicken & rice, she no longer has the wet burp and she did not vomit again. Fed her again with chicken & rice this morning and she's doing fine. |
Glad you found something that's working. All I can tell you is if your trying to change food, buy the smallest bag they have it or you'll end up like me with a closet full of dog food that nobody will eat. Not even the cat, and he'll eat anything. |

Good advice about buying small bags. So far I have 3-4 different types of food at home and most of them was barely touched. |
Olivia likes every type of kibble that I've tried to feed her (all grain free varieties) but - her poo gets so big, stinky and often that I put her back on raw. She likes the raw too - she likes everything edible! :D |
