Peeing from excitement! My girl is 14 weeks old. We have a huge problem about peeing when people come over, or when she meets or sees people in general. We've tried everything- We keep her away from the guest at a distance and after her excitement calms down we let her greet them again, but she gets all excited, VERY excited, all over again... and pees :thumbdown. We've tried telling people to ignore her and not pay any attention to her until she calms down but that does not stop her from getting excited and peeing either. Some times its just a couple drops and sometimes is a pretty big amount of pee. Im so happy my girl is so friendly and happy- she really is a doll but i cant stand having to clean the pee every time some one comes into my house!! I don't want to discipline her for this because i've been told, she's just a puppy- she cant control it. Plus she's really really good with house training we havent had an accident in a very very long time and she KNOWS its wrong to pee in the house. It seems wrong to discpline her for something i know shes not doing on purpose. Help any ideas! |
Well youve already done everything I would tell you to do so maybe putting a diaper on her for a while would be good. Maybe she will outgrow this as she grows |
My furbaby does the same thing. She did it a lot more when she was a puppy. Now she's 1yr & 3mos & to be honest, she still happy piddles when people come over though, just not as bad as she used to. I've heard that they'll eventually grow out of it though, but I guess we'll see. I just make sure she's on the tile that way it's an easy clean up. |

peeing from excitment Hi, you sound like you're doing all the right things, having guests ignore her etc. maybeit's just a maturity thing, she is only 14 weeks, my Gracie wasn't trained properly for months though she's fine now. I expect it's just immature bladder, you said she does fine otherwise. What happens if you pick her up just before people come in>? she probably won't pee on you Pam |
Oh wow...Gucci's brother use to do that. But he only did it when I came around. His original owners couldn't train him so she kept him tied up in the house :( I couldn't stand this so I took him from her to train him. It took me a while but with patience and dedication I manage to train him to go on the wee wee pad. I convince his owner to give him away or sell him as she was expecting and didn't think she could take care of him anymore. A loving gay couple bought him and when ever I'd go to visit and check up on him he'd get so excited he'd pee of excitement. I wish I had keep him... :'( |
My sister's first dachsund did this her ENTIRE life. Now her new dachsund(Bootsie) is doing the same thing. I don't know if it is the breed or my sis!! My yorkie doesn't and my pom didn't. Bootsie loves me and I absolutely can not touch her first. She has to get in my lap first. Then she won't pee. Good luck. |
My yorkie does the same thing and she's 9 months old. We've done everything listed above and it doesn't work. Don't know what else to do. |

Putting diapers on her when you know you're having company would stop getting pee all over, but you may want to get a behavioral trainer to help you out. I had a really aggressive Saint Bernard and brought in a trainer. It was a little on the expensive, but he did help me stop that behavior. |
In my baby's puppy class, there was a very laid back, happy shih-tzu. She did a whole lot of submissive peeing whenever anyone gives her a belly rub. So she ends up rolling around on her own pee without fail. They weren't always just trickles. Hubby's friend's parents have a Bichon type who had always had excitable pee all of his life especially when someone comes to the door. They have worked on calming him before allowing him to be pet by the guest, but once he gets pet, he pees anyway. To this day, they are still working on that and he's a senior dog now. I think a behavioral trainer is a good idea. |
Piddling same problem over here.. junior pee'd on a girls UGGS the other day.. i tried to tell her not to come over until he went but she was hard headed and got peed on.. he does it when he gets super excited about people coming over or other dogs.. i dont scold him i just try and take him to a quiet location first ( a bit hard when you live in a city atmosphere) but let him go first and than he can play.. that way its a bit less pee to piddle on people.. im hoping he well grow out of that...:cool: |
My Roxy does the same thing, but only when my son comes to visit and one other person so far. I just spray them with the Nature's Miracle, the people, and tell them it's bio-degradable ! lol She just get's so excited and I'm sure she'll grow out of it, I hope anyway, she is pretty well house trained at 9 mts so this is something I just keep working on. |
I puppy sat my friends Chihuahua last summer, and he did the SAME thing. The vet told her they just have to grow out of it. Sounds like you're taking all the right steps. I hope your baby improves soon. |
this happened to mickey once back in when iw as in gr.12 (approx 4 yrs ago) i had a huge graduation party at my condo's party room and had to get more stuff so i came in with 4 of my friends, whom mickey has never met and he started barking from a distance and he started peeing! he was 9 y/o old at that time and before that he's never done it! maybe your pup will grow out of it? |
