Zoe is getting spayed tomorrow.. I'm finally taking her to get spayed and I am a nervous wreck. How do they usually behave after the surgery? I'm sure she will be bummed out a little.. Should I show her some extra loving? Anything special you've done for your fur babies that helped? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :) |
I pray everything will go smoothly for your baby. It is natural for you to be nervous. Your baby will mostly just want to sleep when she comes home. I would just make her a nice comfy spot to rest. She may not want to eat much. You could give her a little Nutri-cal. I think the most important thing is to not let her get stressed out once she is home. A little extra loving would be good. I have had several spayed over the years and they all did great. |
Thank you for your advice.. My son has Karate tmrw afternoon so I am wondering whether I should leave her home, or take her with me and stay with her in the car.. What would you suggest I do? She has a fluffy bed and I will make sure to show her extra love tmrw. :) |
I am not sure. Are you going to have her spayed in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon? I would think you would need to be with her and make sure she does not get stressed out and try to jump around. She will most likely just want to sleep. |
Yes he is getting spayed in the AM. I wasn't sure if taking her with me would stress her more. I'll take her and just keep her calm with me. I think i'd be too scared to leave her alone. Besides, you're right. I want to make sure she doesn't get stressed out. Thanks again. |
my thoughts are with you tomorrow as you go through this with little Zoe. :) just try to have good thoughts through the day;) |
I picked Zoe up today and she is doing great. I'm a little concerned about the incision. A lady that lives here in my neighborhood stopped by to see how she was doing and I showed her the incision and she said they did it the old way external stitches that need to be removed. Zoe's incision looks like there is a lot of extra skin that they bunched together at the ends. Does that make sens? Maybe it's because it's swollen. Not sure. Anyone have any insight on how the incision is supposed to look and the difference between the old method and the newer method? |
Glad to hear she is doing well. I am sorry but I don't know about incisions. I wish I could help. |
i'm glad zoe is doing good. i know when we got our rat terrier spayed her incision looked like that. it does get better when the swelling goes down. but you can feel on her stomach and there is a little ridge where they gathered the skin. but her hair grew back and you can't see it. i don't think mine had stitches on the outside because i didn't have to take her back to the vet. I'm sure she'll be fine........she has a good mommy to take care of her.:) |
They usually do just fine. They might be kind of sleepy after it, but in a few days she should be doing fine. |
Thanks.. She seems to be acting ok. She is quiet and just trying to get comfortable in her crate. I'm going to bring her out now and lay her on her bed with us on the couch. So she doesn't feel abandoned in the crate. |
Is it normal for her not to have pain meds? Vet didn't give me pain meds or antibiotics. I was reading a post where everyone said to insist on pain meds but i've also seen some people say they only gave them to their doggies the first day. SHe seems ok. not shaking, crying, or anything. SUggestions. Please. :) |

Not sure about the bunched appearance of the incision but closing with sutures externally is okay. Ellie had staples and everything turned out okay. I hope she recovers quick. :) |

As for the pain medicine, I have only used one vet that offered pain medicine and I had him give my two females pain medicine after the surgery and he kept the females overnight but he did no send them home with any pain medicine. The other I had spayed with a different vet did just fine with no pain medicine and I picked them up the same day. Personally I would not worry about it as long and she is acting fine. |
Thank you all for your great advice. She seems ok. I brought her on the bed with me on her fluffy bed and she seemed ok. I will check her a few times throughout the night. I'm praying for a speedy recovery. I will keep you posted. Thanks. :) |
