poop stuck on butt !!!!! Hello to all, my 3month old Holly gets poop stuck on her hair and has trouble getting it to come all the way out. Any one can help me with this? patti:aimeeyork |
Are poops always rather mushy - is that why this is happening? Firm poos *usually* don't stick to hair. If hers are mushy, then you should consider changing foods. Whatcha feedin'? :) |
You need to trim or shave the hair around her backend to prevent it from sticking to their fur. Sometimes poopy fur alone stops it from coming completely out too. |
lol my kids get this too... :D you are going to need to trim around the "opening" (i do about an in inch in all directions so it will be a circle shape) and i also trim the underside of the very base of the tail ... if they get pooh stuck anyway, i grab a soaking wet paper towel (if i do not have time for a full bath) and soak the area with warm water and gently comb it out once the pooh has softened hope that helps! :) |
It happens to mine too..now I trim the fur off and the long fur below it..It really helps. |
What can I say that hasn't already been said by these knowledgable people! Two things..... Change food because poo should be firmer Trim the hairs around the area so it doesn't get stuck. (I will add one other thing - if there is some dried poo there it will "catch" others so make sure you are cleaning her bottom of any dingles. |
It happens to my girl, too, when she overeats. I started feeding her just a little less and the problem stopped! |
Time for a hair Trim. |

If it get's caked on the hair (for any reason) you can also have her sit in some warm slightly soapy water |
Thanks Im new to the forum and my yorkie, sidney, is only 9 weeks. Ive been wondering about this issue and this helps. Thanks! |
Vaseline I've only had my Jeter for a week. Last night my friend picked him up and noticed he smelled like poo. We took a look and noticed it was dry poop. We tried to take it off with a wet warm paper towel but no such luck. It was cemented. I felt horrible and didn't know what to do. I just hope it wasn't there too long covering his little poop hole. That I'm sure is NOT a good thing. So then I took vaseline and slowly chipped away at it, and it slid right off nice and smoothly, no problem! I will definitely be trimming his bum hairs. I felt so bad...I just REALLY hope it wasn't blocking his bum for too long :( |
Poop Stuck! My husband and I have a new and first Yorkie since January and we love her! She seemed to be having a problem pooping yesterday and when I got home, she was so upset! She had a big wad stuck on her and it required a few baths to get her clean. She was not herself at all after that. This morning she was a little quiet and ended up with another nasty load stuck to her. I cleaned and clipped around her little butt and put a big wad of vaseline there to help matters. Her food has not changed. Could this be one of those dreaded anal gland problems? Or can it be she needs her first good grooming? I wanted her hair to grow a little before I take her but if she is going to be miserable and upset, she will go pronto. Please help! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. It\'s definitely not a matter of grooming because keep in mind, many Yorkies have full coats. Is the poop mushy and is that why it is sticking? Her food hasn\'t changed, but does she get any treats? Any chance she got into or was given something unusual to eat? If she was quiet in addition to having poop problems, I would consider checking in with your vet. They will probably want to take a look at a stool sample. There are so many possibilities for what could be causing this problem. Is her appetite the same today? Keep an eye on her and make sure her gums stay moist and pink. |
