I know she did not get into anything because she was with us all weekend and when she is not, she is secure in her pen. I did notice that Sunday her poops were mushy and I thought it was related to a piece of cheese she was given as a treat on Saturday. That won't happen again if she does not tolerate it well. She eats wet and dry bog food and very little people food so I figured that was the reason. She ate last night after the clean up and she ate pretty well today. She is not happy when her butt is dirty and she looked traumatized because of it. I will certainly watch her but her nose is wet and cold, and she was running and playing a bit this morning. She is different in that she isn't playing all the time. Thanks for your reply. |
This happens to Lucy when she has mushy poop - usually a sign of a little stomach upset for her. Her regular poops are perfect little tootsie rolls that do not stick to her hair. If I do find some on her hair - or dried (like cement) back there; I just put her in the bathtub with some warm water running over her butt - that usually gets it off pretty quick and painlessly. (I use Latex gloves if I have to work it out with my hands). *No, this is not one of the most fun things about owning a dog*** I can usually tell when she has something stuck back there because she acts terribly depressed; just moping around .. until we get it taken care of. |
Yes depressed is a good term. She had this look of "YUK" on her little face when I got home yesterday. You can tell she doesn't like anything hanging on her. She is not crazy about a bath to begin with and she had a few in the last coupe of days. Thanks for letting me know I am not a kook but I could tell she was not happy yet she wasn't really sick. |
Glad to hear that your girl is eating and is up and about. Careful with the cheese, for sure, especially with a little one. Doesn't take much to give them stomach upset and diarrhea, or worse. When Max was a pup, he couldn't tolerate anything outside of his regular diet. Even now at 8 pounds and 4 oz, I am cautious and when I do give him something, it is in tiny, tiny amounts. If your pup is on the smaller side, you will have to be extra vigilant about keeping her rear end clean. Sometimes a little left over poop can cause problems. I check my big boys every night. When dogs have anal gland problems, they usually scoot their butts on the floor and/or want to lick and scratch their backsides. |
She was scooting a bit but I think it was related to the big thing stuck there. She will scoot if something unpleasant is attached to her. She tried her hardest to get rid of it yesterday and it was quite a site! |
LOL, I can imagine. They will scoot if they have an itch, or a prickly piece of hair, many reasons, and I have to admit, I laugh when I see it. My boy looks like he is rowing a boat. :p |
It drives me crazy when mine scoot and leave skid marks on the carpet. I usually know they have poo on their rear before they do it because they hide like their embarressed but every now and then they get ahead of me. I keep that hair by the anus really short even after they have just been groomed I bring them home and cut that area shorter |
When I take Mia in for vet appts. they trim/shave that area for her. Maybe ask if your pup is too young to go to the groomers. They do it no charge here. |
Omg was searching for this issue. Have had 4 yorkies in my life and my Riley is this first one to ever have this problem. Worst part he'll cry like he's being beaten when it happens! Sometimes it's just cemented on, it's so gross Lolol Been trimming him. Still happens but he doesn't yelp like he's being murdered as be4 the trims! Glad I'm not the only one! |
laughed when read ur post. it's not particularly funny when they have poop problems & all gave great advice. i chuckled because that described my morning, opened my eyes because i smelled poop, took a few minutes to find it stuck to oliver. guess they cant reach it to clean themselves, oliver hides & its not easy to find him because he knows he has to get a bath. once clean, he is happy as a lark, & i know it's because i dont trim his hair. so your not alone !!! |
I keep Sophie Kate cut short all over but will get what my groomer refers to as a "hygiene" cut between grooms. Also I keep baby wipes handy and after we go out if I see a mess I wipe her off with a baby wipe. Also baby wipes work well for she has "stinky dog" smell, a quick wipe will clean her up well. |
Someone posted something on this topic recently that made me smile... to use a little bath oil on the butt hair area to keep the 'ornaments' from sticking. Love that term!!:p |
I wash Maggie & Buster's 'parts' every night with a warm wash cloth. Sometimes Maggie has some poop stuck, not often, but I check both of them every night. I bought some baby wash cloths (4 for $.99) at WalMart, they are small, soft and perfect for a quick wash. |
ah the wonderful world of klingons:D. definitely keep the area trimmed really short. also if the poops are a little on the soft side, try adding a few green beans to their meals. either fresh steamed if you're ambitious or (what i do) canned no salt added green beans. the fiber will help firm up the stools and they think they're getting an extra special treat because they're getting people food. |
Poop problems This was fun to read:D , but not really if you know what I mean. Abby my 3 yr. old, once in a great while gets a poop ball stuck on her behind. When this first happened she was trying frantically:( to get it off. I told her : mommy will get it and from then on she comes right in and to the bathroom for me to wipe her off. We keep a baby wipe container in both bathrooms so no big deal. She acts really embarrassed and her walk is over when this happens;). It's amazing how all yorkies are so much alike:eek:. They are truly a breed of their own:). And what darling puppies they are:love: Abby :aimeeyork and Penny's :aimeeyork Momma |
