So we're in the same boat :( Sorry I don't have any good advise but I'm glad to know someone who is also experiencing the same problem with they're furbaby. |

Hello! Baxter is 2 months old, and I just recently took him to the vet. He had really dry skin on his neck, and at first I thought it was a skin disease. I was so worried at first! The vet checked him out, and he said it was only dry skin. He gave me some shampoo(Aloe and Oatmeal Shampoo) and said that it should help with it. He also said to only bathe Baxter once a month. Well, I bathed Baxter today, (like and hour ago, actually) and already I notice a difference. I can't feel anything on his neck. I'm not sure if it's just the shampoo, because the vet said it will simply go away. Hope that helps some! |
maybe that could be the reason we give him a bath atleast twice a week, hes an inside dog , so i guess he will have to be stinky for a while until we see if that helps any |
Oh yeah, that's probably why then. If he's an inside dog, he shouldn't get TOO stinky. Baxter never really smelt bad, but he was scratching a lot lately, and I thought the bath with the shampoo would help... and it did! Anyways, good luck! |
becareful with dry skin I have a tiny little girl I thought she had ringworm or some type of mange, I have done skin scraping over and over never any answer. switched shampoos , switched what I washed her clothes in but it never got any better, This has went on since June. Last week she was getting worse she had large patches of hair lost and her whole body feltlike it was covered with little scabs. I rushed to the vet for more skin scraping and medicine this time. Today I received word from the vet she has a staph infection. Now all I can do is pray and only time will tell. I hope yours is just the shampoo. Please don't take it lightly though:cry::angel: |
his skin is nice n smooth just has flakes, looks like dandruff but im assuming its dry skin, imma hold back on the baths, hope it works, |
Olivia had flakes from her skin in her coat when I first got her, no matter how much I brushed her she still had flakes. I got some of the Petz-Life Cranberry Fields Oatmeal shampoo and conditioner from a yt member and have been using it for a month or so - it has made such a difference! No more flakes and her coat looks just great. The shampoo/conditioner is the only change I made, no changes to food etc. Now I get to work on the new little boy's skin, same flakey skin problem! |
Dry skin? Molly has been scracthing to. Her skin don`t seen to be dry but it must be. She bites by her tail alot. Got some oatmeal shampoo for her but didn`t seem to help much. Tried to change her food . Also got some salamon oil but she won`t eat her food if i put that on. That was waste of money. So i`m going to the vet an see what he says. So i hope some one else has an answer. Might try some different shampoo. Wish we could get samples some times an see what works the best. I keep trying different ones. |
Arnies, I know what you mean. The vet gave me a sample of shampoo that they had to try and he said it would help. Baxter has still been scratching around his neck, but not nearly as bad as he normally did. Also, what really surprised me, was the vet said I could use my own shampoo on Baxter! Of course, he said it had to be light shampoo, like baby shampoo, but that that would suffice. I was so surprised! I'm still using the shampoo he gave me(Aloe and Oatmeal shampoo) to see if it works, first though. Good luck with your itchy pup! |
dry skin There are many reasons why a dog can have dry skin so it is kind of like a process of stopping things and trying other things. Try using a detergent free shampoo. Hylite Shampoo and conditioner is a very good product and usually you can get it at your vets office. Dogs need the grease they produce unlike us we want a shampoo to get rid of it. If this does not work it could be an allergy to the food your feeding, your own perfume or many other things. |
Itiching I know she is miserable . Just finding out what the problem is. She is so picky about her food. She eats the holistic nutrition. It`s chicken , salmon, & lamb in gravy. She has ate it for awhile. She will be 1 year next month. She hasn`t scracthed like she is now just seemed to started. I think i`m going to try an give her hot oil treatments an seem if that helps. They do have hair instead of fur. Just hate for my baby to be so miserable. Maybe some one has an answer. He skin doesn`t look dry. Maybe an allergy ? |
