Are Greenies Safe Now? I have read a lot about Greenies being unsafe, but I just looked it up and they made a new formula that dissolves easily. My question is, are they ok to use now? I'm trying to get Max's teeth clean but even with daily brushing I can't seem to get off the plaque on his back teeth. He was just neutered and I wanted to get his teeth cleaned but the vet said he wouldn't need it.. I know there is always a risk with any kind of bone still. If you have suggestions for a good toothpaste or chew let me know. Thanks. |

Here is one thread about it and if you do a search you'll find lots more: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-petzlife.html |
I use greenies. I used the old ones also and never had a problem. The only thing I don't like about the new forumla, is it doesn't take as long for them to eat them |
Some say yes and some say no. They are supposedly more digestible (over 90% I think) but they were over 80% digestible before, so I'm not sure that was the whole problem. One vet surgeon in GA is quoted online saying that they still see obstruction cases with the new ones. Also, on their website it says that dogs under 5 poiunds or under 6 months (I think) shouldn't have the regular ones because they can't adequately chew. So 5 pound dogs can't chew correctly? I don't know but they aren't something I'd want to give. Bully sticks seem a bit safer. |
I bought the little pieces of greenies for the little ones, and they love them. I sprinkle a bunch of them on the floor, and all 4 really go after them. I only give the petite greenies to the two oldest dogs(11 and 6) and they're 10 and 14 lbs |

please! do not use the little pieces!!!! i used greenies for a long time, and the newer ones are fine..my vet always said they are fine! |
Biggie eats a teenie greenie every evening. Our Vet said it was fine and it would be good for his teeth. |
Thank you for the advice. I tried some since they were 79 cents at Petsmart.. now that I looked them up that is a terrible deal! You can get 96 bones for $20 online. Yorkies really do make you poor lol! I order tons of stuff online since there's so much to choose from and they can only have the very best :). |
I still do not trust them. They said they were safe the first time & a whole bunch of dogs died Why should we trust them now. |
I think this is like most things - some vets say yes and some say no. As yorkie parents we have to do what we feel is good for our little ones. Personally I choose not to give greenies. |
