Any thoughts on a noise that KaCee is making? I want to share a video that I recorded of KaCee. She makes this weird breathing noise, kind of like she can't catch her breath. Sometimes it will happen a couple times a day and then sometimes she'll go a few days without an episode. Normally, they only last 30 seconds maximum but generally stop within a few seconds. I've started to associate an "attack" with really vigorous play or lots of excitement, however sometimes it happens when she's just laying there. At her last checkup, the vet said her lungs sounded fine but of course, she has never had an episode while there. I do intend to let him listen to this recording as well but I'm posting it in hopes that some of you can enlighten me as to what it may be. *FYI-the video is black because I recorded this first thing in the morning when the lights were still off. (she's always really hyper when she first wakes up) If someone wants to see how she stands/acts, I'll try to get a better video. |
Does she stretch her legs out while doing this, and act like she's having a hard time breathing? It could be reverse sneezing(mine does it all the time), next time she does it, take your hand and cover her nose, this way, she will have to breath out of her mouth. If that's what it is, then, it's usually nothing to worry about. I've tried the neck rubbing, but, the holding hand over the nose always works much faster. Does your puppy do it when she's just gotten done getting a drink of water, or when she's excited? |
It could be reverse sneezing- when it happens- try blowing in her nose- that is supposed to stop it- it also could be her trachea. Layla makes a noise similar to that when she is on her back- almost like her trachea is closing a bit on her- i just sit her back up right. |
I've been googling "reverse sneeze" and I'm pretty sure you are both right. I've watched a few videos that I've found of other dogs doing it and they sound pretty much just like what KaCee does. So I guess there is nothing to worry about? I'm just supposed to try to calm her down and cover her nose to stop it.:confused: It's such a horrible noise, I can't imagine that it feels very good on her little throat.:( |
Ya i would try and get it to stop- I watched a show where they blow in their nose and it stops- go figure. |
Mine has been doing it since she was little(she's almost 6 now), I tried the throat rubbing, etc, but, now, I just take my hand and cover her nose, it usually stops pretty fast... |
Could be reverse sneezing. Of course, yorkies are prone to CT (collapsed trachea) - so you hope it isn't that. My Marcel reverse sneezes - whenever he starts, I pick him up and put him by face, which he immediately start licking - and this stops the cycle of sneezing. :) |
Is there a way to tell the difference between reverse sneezing and collapsed trachea? I've heard that CT sounds more like a "honk" but without ever hearing a dog with it, I don't have anything to compare. |
