My Yorkie hops like a bunny when he runs!!! It's the funniest thing I've ever seen!!! Is this normal behavior? |
Higgins hops, too, when he gets going really fast. I think it's normal. Sure is cute! |
great It's great to hear that he isn't the only one! Maybe I should have named him Bugs! |
Speaking of bunnies......now that Higgins has his new haircut, his ears are so big he LOOKS like a bunny! Actually, when you see him from behind as he is gazing out our front door (glass) and he is in silouhette, he looks exactly like the Donkey in Shrek! |

I tend to think that Yoda does more of a gallop, like a horse does. Maybe Yoda's just a sprinter type runner? :) |
Hi, Our yorkie doesnt so much hop when she runs as when she's playing just seems to bounce around hoping like a rabbit its so cute. so i guess its normal. |
Wowww, I guess it really is normal them and here I thought my little girl had a special quality. When she is playing with me she hops from one end of the bed to the next and she will continue like that back and forth for a few minutes. I always thought it was so adorable and thought maybe I should have named her hopper; that's probably how she flew off the roof, she hopped right off while running. |
Cookie bounces all over! It looks so funny lol We have rug in about 80% of our house. When he's on the rug he bounces like a bunny but once he reaches the hardfloor area of the kitchen he comes to a screeching halt and slides. I always think he is going to slam against the wall but he's only done that once! And it wasnt head on lol. He sort of slid and his body turned and his little but hit the wall but not hard. I had to laugh cause you can see he was confused lol. Genie |
Heh, yeah, Yoda does the SAME thing! We have marble and vinyl in parts of the house, and when he's running full speed, and needs to stop, he'll slide just like the tennis players do on clay! And he always stops just in time! They are so athletic for such a small body. |
Ok, so it seems that hoping is a common trait in Yorkies. What about bashfulness? Everytime I take Julie out amongs other people she tends to hide and she shivers as if she was cold and with loud noises she does the same thing. I thought that despite the size Yorkies were brave and fearless at least that's what I have read. |

It is sooooo important to socialize them as early as possible and to keep it up. We got Higgins while we were camping this winter just so he would have the advantage of lots of other people and dogs. We live on a quiet dead end dirt road and we don't have a lot of company, so he doesn't get to see a lot of people unless we are camping. He was a little shy with children this past week, but warmed right up and looked forward to our friends' little girl when she would come into view. So it's good to take them where they can meet and be handled gently by folks. |
hee hee, I say sometimes that Cosita looks like a little rat with hair...so Higgins' mom, i can imagine how cute your baby must be with his big ears. Sometimes Cosita gets caught up in the sprinkles, and then I can really confuse her with a rat.. ah a hairy rat that runs like a bunny as well .. LOL :o -R |
Pippin does that too. My best guess is that it's part of the Yorkies instinct to pounce since they pounce on their prey (mice and such). |
