My Yorkie hops like a bunny when he runs!!! It's the funniest thing I've ever seen!!! Is this normal behavior? |
Higgins hops, too, when he gets going really fast. I think it's normal. Sure is cute! |
great It's great to hear that he isn't the only one! Maybe I should have named him Bugs! |
Speaking of bunnies......now that Higgins has his new haircut, his ears are so big he LOOKS like a bunny! Actually, when you see him from behind as he is gazing out our front door (glass) and he is in silouhette, he looks exactly like the Donkey in Shrek! |

I tend to think that Yoda does more of a gallop, like a horse does. Maybe Yoda's just a sprinter type runner? :) |
Hi, Our yorkie doesnt so much hop when she runs as when she's playing just seems to bounce around hoping like a rabbit its so cute. so i guess its normal. |
Wowww, I guess it really is normal them and here I thought my little girl had a special quality. When she is playing with me she hops from one end of the bed to the next and she will continue like that back and forth for a few minutes. I always thought it was so adorable and thought maybe I should have named her hopper; that's probably how she flew off the roof, she hopped right off while running. |
Cookie bounces all over! It looks so funny lol We have rug in about 80% of our house. When he's on the rug he bounces like a bunny but once he reaches the hardfloor area of the kitchen he comes to a screeching halt and slides. I always think he is going to slam against the wall but he's only done that once! And it wasnt head on lol. He sort of slid and his body turned and his little but hit the wall but not hard. I had to laugh cause you can see he was confused lol. Genie |
Heh, yeah, Yoda does the SAME thing! We have marble and vinyl in parts of the house, and when he's running full speed, and needs to stop, he'll slide just like the tennis players do on clay! And he always stops just in time! They are so athletic for such a small body. |
Ok, so it seems that hoping is a common trait in Yorkies. What about bashfulness? Everytime I take Julie out amongs other people she tends to hide and she shivers as if she was cold and with loud noises she does the same thing. I thought that despite the size Yorkies were brave and fearless at least that's what I have read. |

It is sooooo important to socialize them as early as possible and to keep it up. We got Higgins while we were camping this winter just so he would have the advantage of lots of other people and dogs. We live on a quiet dead end dirt road and we don't have a lot of company, so he doesn't get to see a lot of people unless we are camping. He was a little shy with children this past week, but warmed right up and looked forward to our friends' little girl when she would come into view. So it's good to take them where they can meet and be handled gently by folks. |
hee hee, I say sometimes that Cosita looks like a little rat with hair...so Higgins' mom, i can imagine how cute your baby must be with his big ears. Sometimes Cosita gets caught up in the sprinkles, and then I can really confuse her with a rat.. ah a hairy rat that runs like a bunny as well .. LOL :o -R |
Pippin does that too. My best guess is that it's part of the Yorkies instinct to pounce since they pounce on their prey (mice and such). |
LoL....ok I thought it was just Dolce too that "hopped"...so this is what Yorkies do huh? My boyfriend and I coax her into running...like she'll be in the other room playing and we'll call her and she comes running...I mean hopping, to us...we do it just to see her hop. It IS the funniest thing i have ever seen....they are SO cute!!! |
Yep! Luna also does the hopping thing... she has her regular run then her playful hop, it's really adorable! :p |
:D Yes they are so cute, my Cosita likes my husband's baseball hat and she goes running with it with her head all lifted up so the hat would not drag on the floor. Then she plays hard to catch. It is so cute seeing her do that.. and we looove to see her hopping, she looks like a cute black furry bunny. :o -R |
If you wanna see Yorkie hopping, take your Yorkie into a field with some semi-tall grass. They hop over the tall grass blades in such a cute manner. Yorkie hopping at it's finest! |

I am sure he *does not* look like that poor donkey! I just about spit my coffee out when I read that, it was just way too funny! :D |
yorki bunny hop :p I am a brand new yorkie mommy; I thought that our little girl was the only one that hopped like a bunny when she runs. We thought it was kinda weird at first, but now I am in love with the way she runs. We took her to a field today with tall grass and she looked so cute hopping all over. |
hopping How funny and it is perfectly normal! :) :D |

I think we must be sooo lucky. Zowie and Bronx LOVE people, they always have. We moved last fall, so we had a couple of parties to show off the new house. I was so proud of them. They are not around many small children but with all those people walking around, they just ran around being loved by everyone. They never seemed underfoot, and they had a wonderful time. When anyone comes over, it is like a new adventure for them. It actually makes everyone think that they remember them and that they are loved. |
Lil Bunny Foo Foo Frankie hops just like a bunny. It is so funny to watch. I bought a tiny, tiny camcorder so I can get him in action. He is the sweetest thing. :happyboun |
Haha..that is too funny! Yeah my Yorkie-poo Kelsey, hops like a bunny too. I call her my Mighty dog...like the one's in the dog food commercials. She cracks me up! I go "dun dun dundun...might dog" haha :p |
LOL Lily does the hopping thing too and runs with her ears laid back. I just love watching it! |
...my comet hops like a bunny as well when he runs fast. I love it! Maybe because their legs are not long, they can't seem to get the running stride that they want, so they hop to make them feel like they are running faster?... Just a theory  |
I got a "hopper", too. I made sure I got Kodah on video camera to look back at in my old age - oops! my kids tell me I'm already there!! Another thing Kodah does is sneak up on things like a cat does & then pounces. They are so much fun to just sit back & watch! |
