What do you think of Purina's Proplan food for Small Breeds??? When I picked up Chloe from the breeder, she gave me some food. She was feeding her Proplan for Small Breeds. It is made by Purina. Also she was feeding her this can food called Advantage for puppies. I gave Chloe some and she seems to like(mind you she is small eater). So this is the question: I was wondering if anyone recommends this food, and if you don't, what brand do you recommend and how can I wean her off of it??? Any information is appreciated!!! |
My vet has recommended ProPlan for my cats for years, that is what they eat and they seem to do fine on it. From what I have learned here, there are higher quality brands. Do you need the Lexus or is the Camry good enough? The million dollar question when it comes to food. Personally, I feed by Yorkies Merrick Before Grain, Timberwolf, Evangers, Party Animal and Nature's Variety. I am going to try my cats on Wellness, grain free. |
Lol well i want the lexus but if my furbaby likes the Camry, I am fine with it...lol. She seems to like it but only mixed with the Advantage. I know for sure I am going to wean her off of the wet food... |
Purnia is a very low quality food. There are sooooooooooo many better foods out there and ya know what they pretty much cost the same. I wouldn't feed anything with yucky by-products :thumbdown |
Ask your vet about it, a lot of ours recommend purina. I have our golden retriever on Purina for joints and hips or something like that, I can only get it through the vet. All my others are on eukanuba naturally wild and are doing really well on it. |

I'm not too sure about the foods just yet. I just got my lil girl two weeks ago and I went to the petstore and picked up Royale Canine for Yorkies. I'm from Canada and I guess over here this is one of the better yorkie brands of food. My lil girl loves it so far and I talked to a breeder from the area and they feed their yorkies it too. |
I personally think it's junk and would never feed my babies that. However, if it works for you -- it works. There are a lot of health problems associated with low quality foods, however. The most likely one has been mentioned - allergies/itching. Low quality foods use a lot of grains and animal byproducts as filler. You never really know what it's in it. We feed grain-free only! Right now my babies are on Wellness Core but other foods I would recommend are Orijen, Nature's Variety Instinct, Taste of the Wild, Merrick Before Grain, and Ziwi Peak. There are some options that have grains that are good, such as Nature's Variety Prairie, California Natural, Merrick, Timberwolf, Fromm, and Natural Balance. |

Also I noticed that Chloe has been itching since I have had her. I have washed her and don't see any fleas...maybe she is allergic.... |
I personally wouldn't recommend this food to anyone. To be totally honest with ya, Purina ISN'T a good brand unfortunately :( There are plenty of good ones out there though - although none are sold at your local grocery store ;) |
I have to agree with the people here who would NOT feed this to their pets....I have to agree with you Brooke, I'm always telling people that you just can't find a good pet food at the grocery store it's all junk...... I agree with other posters as well...That food isn't the highest quality and I believe it contains by-products which are so disgusting... Petco sells Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Wellness, and Halo's. Any of these would be better :) Good luck finding a new food! |
Actually this food is not in the grocery store and I found it at the Petsmart. I am thinking about switching her to Royal Canine..that has been highly recomended and the ingredients look well within standard. |
