:thumbup::thumbup: awesome post!! I am soooo tired of the food debate when it comes to animals and everyone thinking that what they feed THIER pets is the best. I do what is best for MY PETS and they are all healthy happy and look great. Wanted to add... many years ago I fed all of my pets "store brand" foods and NOT ONE of them died of anything but old age. I had a dog that lived to be 16 years old and was fed nothing but DAD's brand dog food.. |

Natura produces/manufactures their own foods in their OWN plant. Innova, EVO, CA Natural, ... |

The recall through diamond foods was in 2006, here is an article that I dug up about it, Toxic pet food kills dozens of dogs - Pet health- msnbc.com it was because of alfatoxin which usually involves corn.. most of thier products as well as canidea dont contain corn anymore. I know the 2 pet foods that I feed my pets dont. Im not saying that they werent wrong, however they fixed the problem. I honestly (and sadly) believe that eventually every pet food company will have some sort of recall. Even with human food there are recalls just about everyday. |

But do you know where they get thier ingredients from?? Just because they have their own plant doesnt mean that arent using the same ingredients or getting them at the same place that other plants do. |

What about Eukanuba-Yorkshire Terrier Formula? I never had any problems w/Royal Canin mini 28/Yorkshire terrier Formula, all 3 of them Love it! I did switch it gradually to the Diet Formula b/c they had gained so much weight from my Mother feeding them very un-healthy Table Food. Plus the drastic weather change from Summer to Winter Freeze. Their skin is white and flakey and they won't STOP Scratching, it's gotten to the point where I had to trim their Hair from a long flowing coat to a medium length from patches of Hair being scratched away at the root. I also switched their Shampoo to a Hypo Allergenic/Sensitive Skin Formula. Plus I sleep w/a Humidifier so their skin does'nt get dried out from the dry Heat of the Heating System? Since then my Mother has supposedly STOPPED feeding them? I don't walk them as much or often b/c it's too Cold! Their Scratching so bad that they have open wounds that form scabs. So I don't know what is causing it? I'm trying to attack the problem from all angles? They don't have any visible signs of fleas either. I even stopped blow-drying them after their Baths, now they are towel dried and kept in a warm room and allowed to "Air Dry". What about "Eukanuba for Yorkshire Terriers"? My Sister has her 2 on it and she has NO Problems, but they are in a different climate - Texas. Has anyone heard anything about it? |

Oh that sounds terrible, Joey eats the RC and has no problems, but some yorkies are allergic to corn, and some of the mixes have corn in it, I would look for something without any corn, and see if that helps. Make sure you are using a shampoo recommended for dogs, as they have a different skin and hair pH, and human shampoos, can be terribly drying to them. It doesn't happen overnight, and most people think it isn't the shampoo because of this, but it's really important to use a shampoo made for dogs. The number one thing most people skimp on is rinsing, this too can cause skin problems. You will find that skin problems are easier to prevent than cure. Scratching can lead to secondary infections. Mother must stop feeding table scrapes too. |

aww Im so sorry to hear about your dogs, how uncomfortable for them. I do have to agree with what the other 2 posters have said, its either probably the switch in the food or the corn. My sheltie would get some soars on his belly, they didnt seem to hurt him or did he scratch at them but they would never go away even with treatment, so I swtiched them to a grain free food and within 2 weeks they were gone. :). |
Weigh in Today 12/15/08 OK. Everyone in this heated Debate......I took them to the Vet. today for their Annual Check-up & Vaccinations and Artie weighs 11 lb. he lost 1 1/2lb. he was 12.5 lbs. Abigayle weighs 11.5 lbs. she only lost 1 lb. Pom Pom weighs 6 lbs. she lost 2 lbs. It's been about 2 weeks? No more Tablefood except for Apples, hard boiled egg whites, carrots, peas or beans. They still get alot of "Treats" from "Friends" but I don't give them as much as I used to? The Dogfood RC Weight Care30 w/c has fewer Calories may have helped? I am still feeding them that until some one has a better suggestion w/o fillers or high Carbohydrates? I just make sure I walk/excercise them at least twice a day! I still want them to loose some more weight b/c it's NOT Healthy for them to be this Heavy. I'm going to try to get both Artie & Abigayle back down to 8-9 lb. range w/c is still very Muscular for them. Pom Pom maybe another pound she was 4 1/2 - 5 lb. range. Could it be "Old Age"? They are going on 5, 4 and 3 yrs. old respectively. Do Yorkies get bigger w/old Age? |
My son is a vet tech and a nutrition freak, for our dogs, he did a whole lot or research when he got his alaskan malamute puppy and at the top of his research was, Natures Variety, Enova Evo, Blue buffalo and some others that i don't recall right now, but for almost 3 years now, we been feeding all our dogs Enova Evo, they are a great food with all the requirements for a balance nutrition of your dog. he adopted a Jack Russell terrier that was overweight and put her on it too and she lost weight gradually and right now she is at her perfect weight. My 2 yorkies and my silkie have been on it too. Prada and Chanel started eating Enova when they were 10 weeks old and the vet said the other day that they are in perfect weight and their coats are so cute and perfect too.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
