poo eating Max Quote:
|
My 7-mo. old Yorkie bats it around like a kitten plays - but my Mom's Pom still will eat her poop if we don't pick it up right away. We tried pineapple and ForBid and neither worked for her Pom. We also tried Deter(sp?) for a while and we finally gave up. My Yorkie and her Pom are "potty box" trained and never go outdoors to relieve themselves. Soooo we just keep our eye out for poop! |
poo eating Max this is the second week of using "deterr" tablets...Max won't go near it, so i crush it into his evening meal (canned chicken/rice) so he doesn't smell it... so far no dice!! i watch him do his stuff on the training pad, the pick it up and carry it to his comfy cushion, and then i give him a loud "no", remove it back to the training pad, and sprinkle it with hot sauce... that he will NOT touch, so i guess its wait and see. funny, my first Yorkie had only one accident in the house in his life!!! and poo eating?? whats that? NEVER.. so i'll wait and see. |
My furbaby is a poop eater too...disgusting!!! She brought back her poop to her crate, ate some of it and then left a few nuggets to snack on later. Anyway, I tried the tabasco sauce and she just licked it right off and then I sprayed some grannicks bitter apple. I went downstairs for a few mintuesand when I came back up, I noticed she left her big crate and was hanging out in her smaller crate. I hope that'll put an end to her poop eating. If not, at what age do they eventually stop (she's now 8 months old). |
My Yorkie doesn't do this...yet but my Pekingese does. When researching it on the web I read that it is a natural dog thing to do especially if they are female. From what I read, in the wild when females would have puppies, this is how they kept their dens clean. So, from that source they said it was natural for the females to do this. I can relate to the kitty crunchies though. My Yorkie does eat those! YUCK! |
reply to the nice people who are trying to help thanks to the nice members who are suggesting.... Max will not lick off the tabasco, but has picked it up to carry it to his favorite cushion.(you have to dine in comfort you know)!!! but for the most part he has not eaten it after i even added red ceyenne pepper ... he's been at the vets for the past 5 days (had to go out of town) so he'll come home tonite... had 3 baby canin's pulled because they were making the permenant teeth crooked, also great time to give him a good toenail clip while he was out. i welcome any other suggestions, but regardless i love him as he is.... |
I am LMAF at this thread. It is not funny, however it is. Our little darlings eating poo:eek: Whenever I take Suzi outside she goes straight for the poop. Yes, she eats other animals poo, not her own. Wonder what's the difference? It is difficult to stop her, she is fast, and often times, I can't see that she has it in her mouth. what is gross, is that her breath, mouth smell like it afterwards .YUCK. I keep her off the grass as much as I can. :aimeeyork |
So I've tried the tabasco sauce and grannicks bitter apple spray afterwards...and I think that really worked. She just pooed before and didn't even touch it. Yippee...I think I've ended her days of eating her own poo (fingers crossed). :D |
poo eater hey member folks, am i doing this the right way? answering in this space? if so, then i'll also try bitter apple...it keeps Max off of my shoes, magazines and the like....thanks! |

So, depsite all the advice in the thread I will not go around the neighborhood and sprinkle tabasco sauce on every pile of poo I see :p I can't stop laughing!!!!! At least we're not alone! |
Mollie is 10 years old and has sort of grown out of this dirty little habit. When she was a puppy she did it a lot. Now, if she accidentally messes in the house, she will quickly eat it to hide the evidence so she won't get yelled at. She is very smart! Also, when she goes pooh outside and the stool is very soft, she will try to eat it if I don't watch her like a hawk. I think that she believes that even though she is outside that she has made a mess. She never ate her puke before my dad got angry and yelled at her one day for puking in the house, and ever since then, she tries to quickly eat it so she won't get into trouble. There are many ideas that people come up with to try to prevent dogs eating their waste, but none of them are at all effective and you would just be wasting your money if you bought them. |
I'd only really be concerned if your dog would eat pooh that was lying around for a few minutes or more, especially if it's not her own. Very nasty worms live in the pooh and many people do not treat their dogs with worm medication. Wild animals, of course, never receive worming medication. If I were you, I would take your baby out on a leash each time it had to do its number (this is also a good safety procedure if you do not have a fenced in area, with no spaces large enough for it to escape under the fence, for it to be loose in.) That's what I've done with Mollie (especially since she becomes deaf and dumb to the world [to my calling and cars going by] when she sees other animals or people walking and will just run after them.) |
