Help quick!! !Please--- Vomiting Brown Liquid OH MY GOD! All of a sudden i woke up today and there was brown liquid on the pad and i thought it was diarreah but she just now vomited on me brown liquid. i am so upset i can barely type. she was with me 24/7 these past few days. i have been raw feeding for about a week to 10 days and shes doing great-no diahreeah. im trying to think of what happened yesterday. i took her to the doctor with me yesterday,, walked her for the first time in the park, but it was very hot out even at 6pm. lets see-i did pull her a bit on the leash to encourage her to walk. but she wears one of chattiesmoms harnesses. i was eating some beef with ketchup, but i never gave her any. she might have licked some juice or ketchup off of some fabric. um-when we came home from the doctor the rugs had been cleaned-but we tried someone who does safe organic cleaning and she wasnt down on them any way. and she was not walking much-i carried her alot and when she did walk she was wearing her leash because im trying to potty train her and keep her with me at all times. i cannot think what this could be. |
could this be from feeding raw-i mean its the only thing that went into her system i think-althogh she has been alright so far on raw-a week to 10 days |
She might just have a little stomach upset. Mine have had times where they vomitted maybe once or twice in a day then they were okay by the next day. I would just keep an eye on her |
She may be purging her system of crap from the new raw eating. This is not that unusual and can happen up to two weeks after feeding raw. Keep an eye on her and if she appears to be okay and does not continue vomiting, I wouldn't worry about it. If she continues, she may need to see the vet to make sure she doesn't dehydrate. Occasionally, you will hear someone say that "raw can be too rich" for them, which is not necessarily the case. Hope she is just fine!!! |
Call the vet and see what he suggests. |
i just called the vet and they said to watch her toaday and if she vomits again to bring her in. she just drank a TON of water. what should i feed her? should i continue her raw? |
I don't think it's the raw, since it's bee 10 days. Heat stroke (or, even mild) can happen very quickly - or maybe it was just enough to make her queasy. She may have grabbed something in the grass. I would feed her if she'd hungry bc food can settle the tummy. Or, feed her some saltine crackers first - that can help too - wait 30 mins, then feed the raw. |
Could she have some how eaten poop  - as this would cause a stomach upset and the brown vomit :( |
I wouldn't say it is the food too fast. If is is only one day of vomiting, it could just be a bug. If the vomiting stops and you start raw again and it starts again, then I would say it is that. Although most dogs can handle it, some can't. Do you know if she has a compromised immune system? |
ANN: Actually i checked and it is just a week of raw feeding, not 10 days. not sure if this makes a difference? i gave her two soda crackers and she goggled them up No i don't believe so Crystal, i dont think she has a compromised immune system. ive never been told that by my vet or breeder she seems very hungry i think i wii try to feed her her raw |
She just went potty (wee wee) and it looks a little like yellowish with a verry verry light brown - or I don't know, maybe I'm imagining it. I just fed her her lamb and she went for it like GANG BUSTERS. I'm wondering if one meat is richer than another. The lamb seems verrrrry rich. Maybe I should do the chicken and only give her the lamb very occaisionally. I've been feeding lamb every day now for about three days. should I switch back to the chicken? Or does it not make a difference? |

I would be forcing fluids as long as she isn't throwing them up. If it is dark after rehydrating, I think I'd see the vet. Are her gums pink? |
her gums are pink (as opposed to what?) how do you force liquids and how much? at a time? what does this all mean? |
To force liquids you use a syringe. When I've have to do this in the past, I usually give 2 cc's at at time, once an hour. |
i just gave her some more to drink and she drank a lot for the second time. this is very unusual for her. she is not usually much of a drinker. what does this all mean? |

Did her vomit this a.m. smell like poo or anything? Poor honey! |
i just offered her yet more water and she drank alot again. WHAT is going on? This is veeeeerrrrry unusual!!!!!!! |
um, i didnt smell it, but i will. her urine wasnt exactly brown really- it was kind of yellowish with a veeeerrrry light stain of brownish in one small part of the urine |

She is drinking a lot of water, that's for sure. But, keep an eye on her pee and go from there. It sounds like her behavior is good - so this is good too. |
thanks. as you can tell i'm terrified. ill try not to worry too much |
Is she peeing a lot in small amounts or just average? The brown spot, are you sure it wasn't red? Watch closely for more brown. |
no, her vomit did not smell like poo to me. i left her for a few seconds in her pen to see if she would urinate, but she didnt. instead she started barking for me to pick her up. a good sign i think and hope! |
no, i just checked again Crystal, no red, just a slight tinge of brown, veeery slight-in one part of her urine. just offered her some more water and she drank some MORE. not as much as before, but still quite a lot for her. more than she might drink in a whole day, and thats just this last drink, not counting the others |
she stlll hasnt urinated yet-since after the last time- after all that drinking! hard to believe! it's gotta come soon-it just has to. her little body can only hold so much urine before she has to go. she's only 2.4 lbs full grown! |
Hope she will be just fine. Keep us posted. |
okay, Cassie just urinated and it was mostly clear with a slight tinge of yellow in one spot. I spoke to the guy in the natural foods pet store and he says he doubts that it would be the food since the last time I fed her before she threw up was about 4-5 oclock yesterday for dinner and she didn't vomit till about 7:3o this morning before breakfast or any food. he said it would all have been digested by then, so he doubts would be the food. |

she just refused some water, so i think she s had enough |
i think what luvmysissy meant was that from what Ive been told when switching to raw from another diet the body may go through a purging period if the previous diet was mainly a poor one of commercial dog food. I guess this can happen for a certain number of weeks before our babies get the old toxins completely out of the body. But Cassie was not on commercial dog food, I was home feeding her and so she really did not have any diahreah or a bad reaction the the raw. I switched her immediately from one to the other and she seemed just fine. Not really sure what the heck happened. I hope and pray it is subsiding. It seems to be so, at the moment. I will feed her lunch soon and see if she holds that down. :-) |
