My dog is hungry ALL the time I have a 1 yr. old female. I am looking for a food that will help my dog feel more satisfied. I am currently giving her Purina. She is constantly hungry. She would eat all day if I let her. I have to constantly watch her indoors and out. She has never been sick to her stomach which is amazing in itself. She eats anything and everything she can get her little mouth on. I would appreciate any help you have to offer. Thanks |
She's probably not getting all the nutrients she's craving. Have you thought about "real" food? Hope cooking is the safest and healthiest! ;) |
Welcome to YT :welcome4: Some of the members are very well versed in proper nutrition. I'm sure they can give you some advice on good quality foods. I feed a premium kibble and one of mine still thinks I'm shorting him, but I measure carefully and everyone else is quite satisfied. :D |
I have one that is always hungry too. It doesn't matter what I feed her and I'm pretty confident it's not due to a lack of proper nutrition. The type food you are feeding is not ALWAYS the source of a problem. However, I would look into changing her diet a bit to see if it has an effect on the problem if for no other reason. I think mine just doesn't want the others to have any food. She has literally made herself sick eating before, but never did it when she was the only dog in the house. |
Since she is eating all the time, is she overweight, underweight or normal? |
My Pommie gulps his food the instant I allow him to go to his bowl. He's always starved, or so it seems. He would eat 2 cups of food if I allowed him to. I asked the vet the last time I was in if I was shorting him and she said that he felt well fed. So I have quite worrying about it. He was getting 1/2 c. morning and evening and she had me cut him back to 1/3 cup. He weighs about 6.8 lbs. My Yorkies each get 1/8 cup morning and evening and I still have one that is over weight. Go figure. Joanne |
Holy cow! Only 1/4 cup of food all day! That does not seem like enough at all...not in comparison to what mine are accustomed to anyway. Is this the normal amount that everyone feeds? I am beginning to think that I have been waaaaayyy over feeding mine. :( |

If they're not, then you probably aren't overfeeding. When Ellie ate kibble (free fed), she would eat about 1/2 cup per day. She was just over 5 pounds and that is underweight for her. With wet food, since most of it is moisture they will eat tons more. It depends on the food and the dog's metabolism. Ellie doesn't get tons of exercise but she is wirey/high strung and her metabolism is very fast. |

I just tried pouring that much in a bowl and it's more than I had envisioned. :embarasse I was just picturing 1/4 a cup in my head and it didn't seem like a lot at all. (Now I just feel like a moron!:yelrotflm) I don't measure it out, I just judge off of the amount in the bowls because I'm used to how much they should get by now. |
cslat1-- You keep responding to my posts here by leaving a comment in my profile. (Which is fine, I love comments from people!) Just wondering why---I notice you are a new member and am thinking maybe you don't know how to respond to the thread HERE like we are all doing??? Are you hitting the reply buttom at the BOTTOM of this screen, or are you sending comments to my personal profile page on purpose? I don't mind...just trying to make sure you've got he hang of things here. |
Is this what you mean? Someone else to me to click on the avatar and respond. I'm confused. I'll try to remember to do it this way if it's correct. Would you let me know. Talk about feeling like a moron  |

Yes, this was what I meant. You can respond or send someone a message like you were, but when you do that, that person (in this case me) is the only one that sees it. Which is fine...I just kind of figured you weren't quite getting the hang of it. But rest assured, you are not the first.:) |
Perhaps they are just burning up the calories during play? Or some Yorkie's just love food! My Suzi likes to eat too. I know that Yorkies have tiny stomachs and can only hold so much at a time. But, then are hungry again a short time later. If yours is not having weight problems , or any health issues then I would not worry about it. :aimeeyork Parasites causes a dog to be constantly hungry. :aimeeyork |
Mine get anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 cup per day each. I feed them separately so I know everyone gets their share and they are all very healthy weight. When I do breed one of the girls I increase the food dramatically and as she gets close she gets all she can eat. |
Sorry I'm sorry. I didn't know that. Thank you for telling me. Someone mention to me that I should click on the Avatar. I guess I'm confused.:D |
