What do you put in your kong? Is it ok to put cream cheese (weight watcher's or fat free) in a kong or stuff it in the end of a hollow bone. The cans they sell w/peanut butter, etc are so expensive. Mackensie doesn't seem to like peanut butter. Any ideas? |
I was wondering the same thing. I got Baylee her 1st kong yesterday. It cam with a few sample treats but she is having trouble getting it out. |
My dogs emptied the Kong so fast, I'm looking for something that doesn't fall out right into their mouths! I tried peanut butter, but it was soooo messy, all over the dog and my floors. I'd be interested in what others have used too. I know you can use hot dog slices, but don't want to give much of that. What else? |
I have the kong babysitter for my baby and just purchased the extra large black kong for my son's boxer.. that thing is huge... anyway it came with a can of peanut spread, which I tried and it seems sooooooooo salty for our lil ones....I have the small kongs and normally fill them with her kibble and then close the top off with a bit of organic peanut butter...she love it that way :animal36 |
I have used the canned stuff for puppies to fill her kong, and the thing is she will just lick it all up, and be done with it. A few times she will pick it up empty, but not too much. :aimeeyork |
I use organic natural peanut butter but I never fill it up. Always just spread a little on the inside and at the bottom. Feel that there are too many extra calories if I fill it up. Since I use so little it messy. I get the soft Kongs and my babies spend hours chewing on those things trying to get the peanut butter from the bottom. They actually do clean all of it out in the end. Amazing how those little tongues can reach so far.:):):) |
Peanut Butter Bently loves peanut butter in his Kong.... If you freeze it overnight you shouldn't have any problems with it making a mess since, if your Yorkie is like Bently, it will be gone in no time at all. |
I've used just about everything in those kongs, but the favorite at my house is yogurt w/ cut up bananas. Fill the kong, and then freeze. Yum! |
i buy organic gerber's baby food (i.e banana, strawberries&apples) and put it in coco's kong... but i never fill it up completely. i've tried low-fat yogurt, cottage cheese, kong stuffin'... oh, and canned pumpkin when he has tummy troubles. |
Canned pumpkin is a good idea. How do you keep it from coming out all over the floors? |
I put Baxter's regular kibble in it and then seal the end with one of the little liver treats that comes in a milk carton. I just smash it into the kibble. He goes through it pretty quickly. It's amazing how much better he likes the kibble when it comes out of the kong than the bowl! |
Mix enough kibble to fill it with a tiny amount of low fat cheeze whiz to make it all stick then freeze it. Scooter LOVES cheese, so he gobbles this up in no time! |
I love all of these ideas! How fun for our Yorkie babies. I am going to be creative with Suzi's Kong and see how much she loves it! :D |
I just tried filling the puppy kong with her dry food and closing it in with the peanut butter.I just put it in the freezer to harden it. I hope this will encourage her to eat a bit more, but after reading all of the posts on "trying to get your puppy to eat" I realize this is normal....we're still hand feeding |

if i put "dry" treats in it, he knows to bang it on the floor to get the treats out, so they pop out all over the floor, but he finds them and eats all of them so no mess there either. |
