I really have no idea but it is a possibility that her immune system isn't working quite right, so she can't fight things off. If that were the case though, I would think sense Diggy had clostridium also, he would have mites. So it is hard to say what is going on.

When you give Bella a warm bath now with her new shampoo, does the itching get worse during/after it?

If she is having problems going on grass and doesn't want to, I would be concerned that it is bothering her...
I was curious about yr comment on itching getting worse after bath? This happens to Bella? Relation to something specific?

I think if its mites, they itch worse the bath stirs them up....Bella didnt get worse after a bath but she didnt get relief the second time either...she also had chicken straight from the grill that night..NOTHING was working AT ALL until the next day. Is that what ya meant or did I mis-read that?

The question was really only specific to this situation because warm water stirs up mites.

If your pup is getting itchy after baths, have you switched shampoo?

I've been learning from yr thread & all the posts. I hope yr Bella can find relief very very soon! My Bella itches after her bath!:( It is so sad to see them in such misery when we are trying all that we can.

What shampoo are you using?

Chachi was put on revolution when he had mites but it doesnt get rid of mites it is more of a preventative. He had dips but sometimes give oral meds also

That's interesting.
I think injections of Ivermectin is the first choice and Revolution is used often too but doesn't work as well.:confused:

I would consult a vet then...she shouldnt itch after a bath. Vets also carry a shampoo called hylyte i think or something like that and it is designed to be hyopallergenic and helps with itches....I think what ellie may is saying is if Bella did have mites they tend to get stirred up after the water touches them (prolly makes them mad :mad:) If you suspect it could be mites its as simple as instead of frontline or advantixsentinnal etc., use revolution it kills mites :) and if after that she still itches may its the shampoo? Maybe a dose of Benedryl after a bath may help? Im not sure I think your vet would have a few suggestions to help her I also appreciate your thoughts for my Bella :) I too hope this is all over soon for her.

Paula - I hope you can get some good answers soon. I have always read that if you are feeding home cooking, the meet absolutely has to be completely unseasoned - so it is possible the marinade could be the culprit. If it is food allergies, there are pups allergic to chicken as well.

As far as the Hills P/D goes, a main ingredient is Ethoxyquin (a known carcinogen) and BHA (another carcinogen) is used in the vegetable oil (which is also not a great ingredient).

I would also be careful of the prescription bath products from the vet. If you look at the label, there is a huge warning to keep away from children and eyes/nose/mouth. I would personally be worried about them licking themselves following a bath in this type of product and they are very chemically infused. There are several good oatmeal based pet products out there that are not full of chemicals and preservatives that would be a much better option.

According to my vet it is very effective and contains the least amount of pesticides compared to a dip or Ivermectin.

He says the issue is most vets prescribe 1 dose of revolution as treatment when actually its a dose every 2 weeks for up to 3 treatments (im not certain thats the actual dosage but something like that) he said the problem is its usually mis-used therefore causing it to not be as effective.

I think for every vet in the world, there are that many ways of doing things.:p
Ellie's vet uses injections of Ivermectin usually.
I think she said she has used Revolution and it doesn't do as good as of job as what she would like, so Ivermectin ends up following anyway.

Of course I would definately want to try Revolution first because the Ivermectin is an off-label dose for mites.

I agree 100%. Hopefully I wont have to use either and I get this figured out soon. I just really am leaning against mites due to the fact Diggy is clear. And she is 3 prolly would have had the other ones acted up by now. I dunno I just really feel its chicken or grass.

To me, this is still sounding like a "hives" reaction in a human. Wherein the human ingested something that caused a severe reaction. In Bella's case, I'm still leaning toward that Marinade and/or the grilling (grilling, in and of itself, adds chemicals) as causing the severe reaction. It still wouldn't hurt to have a skin scraping.

Ongoing itching could really just be seasonal. Getting her onto raw, if her tummy/poo is fine, might be really good timing right now. :)

How long do these reactions last?? Her poo has remained good through it all belly seems fine appetite is up due to steroid I am assuming.....She still wont walk on grass, still depressed and when I went a day without the prednisone and antihistamine she broke out BAD again. Normal?

Broke out "bad" as in hives or just the itching got sky high? Poor baby. Are her paws tender/raw? Did you look btwn her toes for anything funky (sometimes you have to use a flashlight)? I'm wondering if she's avoiding the grass bc it hurts her feet. Btw, was your grass/yard treated recently w/ anything? Sometimes you can get hives from stings too, so I wonder if she was stung/bitten by something. Do you have fire ants or biting things in the grass?

Hives can last up to 10 days or so. You can get topical Benadryl (in a little stick) that you could try to put on her. I wonder if there is a spray or anything? I would continue the oral Benadryl if it's helping her, for now.
