| Squirty Diarrhea I feed my babies IAMS Puppy Food. Both of them were weaned to it with their original owners. My question - over the last week Gracie has had diarrhea. She is taking it lots of fluids and is eating well. Her energy level is between stinker and ornery so I know she is doing fine. I took her, and a stool sample, to the vet. He gave her an antibiotic (1/2 tablet a day). She is done with the pills and still has diarrhea. Now, today, Froto has started in with diarrhea. Again, his appetite is healthy, energy level matches Gracie's and is taking in fluids. I have read in other discussions about yogurts and peto. Any suggestions? I will take both back to the vet again. We have a wonderful fenced in yard in the back and the babies and I spend time outside during the day. There are times when I catch them eating grass. My other dogs have done that also so I didn't think this could be a real issue to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you all!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Are they puppies then? If so, they could easily have coccidia or giardia. Giardia is notorious for hiding under the scope - so you often have to test twice for it. It can kill a puppy, so you may want to bring another fecal sample to the vet asap. Even though energy levels are good - what can happen w/ puppies and diarrhea is that one minute they're fine, the next, it's an emergency - I've seen it happen and it's incredibly scary (and expensive at that point). As an aside, if it were me - I'd get them off of the Iams asap - it's really full of fillers and allergens. If you transfer them off early - you'll avoid potential allergies later on.

| What food would you suggest instead of IAMS? My other Yorkies were on IAMS so didn't think of any other food. Yes, they are puppies at this stage. Just over 4 months old. Do you know how difficult it is to get a sample of diarrhea? :-)

| Thank you for the referral for dog food. I will try it. I went on the website and ordered a small bag (8lb) to see if this helps. I still will get them into the VET to make sure their are no parasite. We got back from the Lake of the Ozarks also - perhaps they may have picked up something in the water there. :-(

Kibbles I really like are: Natures Variety Instinct, Wellness Core Ocean, Orijen and a few others, but I like those best.
