Prey Model Raw Specials!!! Hello fellow prey model feeders; I just received a specials notice this morning and thought I'd pass this along! Prey 4 Pets has a special this week; Ground Green Tripe, 5 Pound Roll $10.99 (regular $12.99) Feeder Chicks, Bag Of 5 $5.99 (regular $7.99) Their tripe is from 90% grass fed cattle! Feeder chicks are 3 weeks old (3.5-4.5 ounces), frozen separate, most feathers removed and the perfect size for our Yorkies for whole prey feeding! The chicks are males and would be euthanized anyways by the hatcheries that breed for egg laying hens. Prey 4 Pets also still has a promotional shipping in effect with no box fees! I'm in no way affiliated with them, I'm a customer and receive their specials through my Carnivore Feed Supplier list on Yahoo. Feeder Chicks - 3 weeks old (4oz) - bag of 5 |

Thanks for sharing this!! I'm all out of green tripe, so now's the perfect time to buy! :p |
Lol Oh, I get it now, TLC!.... Yeah, I've never seen this offered anywhere before, until I found this website. After initial head scratching, I decided that this was a great way to introduce WHOLE prey feeding since we've only done the "model thing" up to that point. Two out of my 3 will eat it and it's usually a fairly quick affair because, err, they're small chicks (sorry ). |
You're very welcome! Oh, no problem! Anything to save a buck these days, right?! And with limited green tripe suppliers, it's nice to see discounts every once in a while! Quote:

Awesome! Good for you :thumbup::thumbup:! The transition may be a bit hard in the beginning (for both mommy and baby, lol), mine were no different. And today I won't even blink to purchase feeder chicks! Quote:

...so I have a lot to work on... |
All right, I've been wanting to try tripe. How does it arrive though? Is that a dumb question? I would think it would need to be frozen.... As for the baby chicks, I just don't think I can do that.... for one, I would like to hatch some chickens (have done so in the past) so I don't really want my dogs to see them as prey.... Thanks for the link! |
I can understand your concerns! Having a dog with chronic health issues myself, it was a "do or die" approach that worked! In my experience, liver compromised dogs especially would benefit from a raw diet as cooked proteins are so hard on their systems. Veggies/grains add to the problem. That being said, I don't know your dog's history nor am I trying to dispute your vet's advice!!!! Most prey model feeders work full time jobs and have worked out a schedule that works. The more and longer a dog has been eating prey model, the faster and more efficient they become. Now, I don't hardly even watch my dogs anymore when they eat. I go about my business and check on them periodically, they bark to alert me when they're done! Unless a dog has no teeth whatsoever, he/she is still capable of chewing through meaty bones. Raw bone (especially chicken) is soft and pliable. If a dog can eat kibble, he can eat prey model. Slightly frozen meat is how many dogs like to eat so no problem there! "Some" prey model combined with ground is still better than none at all! ;) Prey model and pre-made ground diets actually utilize all that you have mentioned you weren't sure about feeding. Meaty bones from all sorts of protein sources, organ meats, fish and eggs pretty much sums up the raw "recipes". You can purchase human grade meat from any grocery store, meat market or butcher! I buy whatever is on sale. I typically pay a visit to a certain ethnic grocery store as they have the best deals and carry a wide selection on hard to find items like beef pancreas for example..... In no way was this intended as a lecture, just letting you know that there might be solutions to the things you feel are currently a stumbling block. There's a few experienced prey model/raw feeders here, and including myself always here to help! :) Quote:

Tripe and no question is dumb-ever Yes it is frozen. It comes in a 5 pound roll, like ground beef in tubes. They ship in special insulated styrofoam boxes and dry ice and use 2 day UPS. By the time it arrives at my house, the tripe is not solid frozen anymore but still very cold! I thaw, portion and refreeze anyways. Unless a dog is trained to specifically stay away from chickens and hatchlings, most likely they'll think it's prey anyways, regardless of what's being fed. My female will try to chase down wild birds and lizards! Those things are not on the menu at my house by far...:p lol Quote:

Thanks! I am just too nervious about Roxy. She doesn't have any grains or cooked meat either. Only raw pureed veggies, fruit and she gets protein from cottage cheese. She would love to go back to raw (as I had them both on it for about 6 months last year), but for now, she is doing well on what she gets now ;) Quote:

what do you feed the tripe with? do you treat it as organ meat and feed it as a side dish with a RMB? |
