I didn't make that point to say that YOUR vet was doing that. Sorry for the confusion. I should have elaborated and said what Ellie May said - most vets don't really know a whole lot about nutrition anyway.

No worries. I appologize if I came off a little upset. I have been doing some research on my own and I thank you for that. I decided that I would take a look at a Petsmart while I was just hanging out in Minneapolis waiting for my husband. I have to say that almost all the dry dog food had some sort of by-product in the first three ingredients. And I did recheck the label on his food and the second ingredient is a grain. I guess when I was looking at ingredient labels I really was unsure what to even look for. I am not throwing away another bag of food so he's gonna have to finish it off.... thankfully it's the small bag. Are the any dry brands that anyone would recommend? I am not a fan of canned food as Jack has gotten ahold of Benji's (our kitty's canned food that we give her as a treat) wet food and ended up with runny stool. And we only have a Pet Co in the city I live in so it would need to be a brand I can buy there. Thanks!

Petco carries Wellness which is what my babies are on and it's one of my favorite foods. They unfortunately don't have the Core formula which is the grain-free, high protein kibble but they do have their other kibble which is great.

As for other brands, they also carry Natural Balance, which I've heard great reviews from. Solid Gold is a pretty good food but my babies didn't really like it and it gave them stinky poops.

I am feeding my boy Nutro Natural Choice Puppy. I have heard mixed things on this site about that food, some say good, some say bad. What I would like some feedback on is how much food he should be eating at this point. He is 3.5 pounds and is 8 months old. He is a grazer so his food is out all day. I just fill it when empty. I would say he is eating between 1/4 and 1/2 cup a day. Is that enough?????

I started my dogs on the Eukenuba Yorkshire, & I love it! A little more expensive than the Nutro/Iams.. but well worth it, I have seen my heavier Yorkie lose some weight & the size of the food is PERFECT for them. I once in a blue moon feed them the Purina Beneful, but i mix 1 tblespoon of it with their dry food. They love it! Hope that helps

okay I finally found a food. I hear good things about it. Evo Chicken. I hope no one finds anything wrong with this food. ; ) Wellness made him really sick.

Evo is a great food!! Is it the kibble or the canned? Some people have had problems with the canned because the fat content is pretty high.

Tricksie does great on the kibble, the canned made her have the poops really bad.
