wow it is crazy expensive and the cost to deliver to Canada is insane (they charge a boarder fee) and my luck it would bother her. I'll have to see if i can get it locally and if i can return it should it bother her (our local health pet food store allows returns... i just hope they carry it *fingers crossed*) |
Cosequin is the only form of feed-through I would use. How expensive is it there?? |

Does Smartpak ship to Canada I wonder? I love Smartpak, get most of my stuff there. It's Welcome to SmartPak. They have Cosequin for small dogs for $60 for 180 pills. |

I'm guess it MIGHT have to do with weight but it could be totally random.. could be where it came from or where it is going... but i'm SURe i can get it locally if not out of Toronto. |
Your vet might carry it - mine did until they started carrying another brand. Call around to several vets, maybe one of them has it? It's not prescription you just have to get the regular strength not the double. It's a powder in capsules about the size of a tylenol. You can feed them the pill or open the capsule and sprinkle the powder on their food. I get it from Foster & Smith, but they don't say they ship to Canada. SmartPak doesn't either. I tried to find a website in Canada but it appears all of the Canadian "pharmacies" only ship to the US... what's up with that? Maybe call some feed stores (Cosequin is used on horses, but obviously in a higher dose) and pet boutiques. Good luck! |

Cosequin is the best IMO. A lot of the glucosamine products out there don't have enough to be beneficial. For a dog Lady's size (7.5 lbs.). my vet said she need 300 mg a day. Most of the less expensive "off" brands don't have nearly enough. I get it at Entirely Pets or KV Vet Supply. Cosequin Regular Strength (90 capsules) KV Vet Supply / KV HealthLinks - Pet, equine & livestock supplies / Quality nutrition for you! |
Wow, thanks for such a great thread! I am gonna have to look into Cosequin as Tatum unfortunately already has stage 3 LP in both back legs :( She is taking Glucosamine, but they are in the (soft) chew form - our vet prescribed these to her. She gets only 1 every other day. She is on allergy medication (Hydroxyzine) also and I hide 1 half of a pill at every meal time (so twice a day) in her food - that being said, and this is a REALLY dumb question I know, but will sprinkling one of these Cosequin capsules on her food hurt her at all since she is taking the Hydroxyzine also? I just want to check beforehand....I always worry about everything  Also, one more thing....after the initial 6 week administration period, do all of you continue to give 1/2 - 1 capsule per day? Or did you decrease the dosage to 1 capsule every other day? |
Lady gets the full capsule every day, but she has pretty bad arthritis. She also gets allergy medication (Zyrtec) and there aren't any side effects from mixing them together. |
I have been giving my Dixie, age 12, a product that I bought in the pet section at Wal-mart. It is called ProPet Glucosamine Advanded Cronic Care. 60 tablets is around $16.00. They contain 500mg of Glucosamine Hydrochloride, 200 mg of Chondroitin, 100 mg of MSM, 50 mg of Vitamin C and 5 mg of Manganese. Dixie loves them and eats them readily like a treat. |

As far as the dosage goes, I will probably stick to giving Tatum 1 capsule per day, or every other day. Actually, maybe every other day since she is a little girl and that is the dosage in which she is taking her Glucosamine chews now. Again, will run it by my vet :) Thanks again for all your help! |
