| Nutra Cal Can someone please explain to me what nutra cal is? The breeder told me to give it to my puppy. Also..where can I buy it? We don't have a pet smart, but we do have a wal mart! Perhaps online? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Nutri-cal is simply Karo Syrup (the white kind) or corn syrup, mixed with a miniscule amount of vitamins. The reason your breeder told you to have some is that small breeds especially puppies sometime suffer from hypoglycemia, and rubbing Nutri-cal or Kara Syrup on the roof of the mouth injects sugar into their blood stream very fast. Small puppies sometimes can't eat enough to carry them through the day, and most breeders recommend free feeding. Many people give it too often, and it's really not recommended unless the dog is showing symptoms. Quote:

| My dog is already 4lbs and she eats pretty well. When we go outside, she tries to find all the leftover morsels from our chocolate lab's bowl. That won't hurt her if she finds some treasures of adult dog food will it? |

No it won't hurt, usually the adults love the puppy food.
