Help!! I think there might be something wrong! I posted this in the wrong section earlier so I thought I would post it here now to see if I can get any responses! So I am getting a new puppy flown in on Sunday. I recently learned that this breeder may be a puppymill and I am so worried about how my new puppy is going to be physically and mentally. I got some new pictures of her this morning and I noticed in a couple of the pictures that it looks like one of her eyes looks a little out to the outside when her other eye is looking straight. Is this an indication of anything? Has anyone had a puppy that has had this? I never noticed it before until these new pictures. But now it is pretty noticeable in the pictures. Any advice will be much appreciated! Here are some pictures of her: http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...p181/zoey1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...mp181/Zoey.jpg I think maybe I am just being paranoid. But after finding other pictures from new puppies this guy is selling it just really has me nervous because I highly suspect this puppy is coming from a puppy mill.... Also there are a few dogs that he recently posted online that have severe eye issues that are totally noticable. Although my new little girls doesn't seemed to be anywhere as to what some of the other puppies he has posted it just really worries me that there is something wrong and I was just wondering if anyone has bought a dog that has eye issues like this. Is it going to effect her health? Her sight? Her mental wellbeing? I am just so scared! I want to get her out of that place as soon as possible but then again I am nervous about what I have got myself into. Can I post a picture of one of the other dogs he has posted online so you can really see what I am talking about or is that a big no no since that isn't the dog that I am buying? |

Sorry, the 1st links to her pics weren't working.. here are the ones that work! |
I personally dont see anything wrong with her eye's, seems like she is looking at something off in one direction. she is a cutie. Good luck with her, I hope she is healthy and happy when she see's her new mom. |
I agree. I think it is just the way the puppy is looking combined with the hair growth |
same here....i dont see anything wrong either! Good luck! :) |
Same here but what a q-t |
I must be totally paranoid then about her eyes because of a couple of other puppies this breeder just posted online and their eyes are seriously crooked!! Maybe I am just feeding too much into it? |
You have every right to be worried if you believe the breeder is a puppymill. If you're saying that the eyes are even *possibly* looking in different directions, then it's *possible* that baby may have hydrocephalus, and that is an extremely heartbreaking thing to deal with. Know what you are getting yourself into before you do it. You know what they say...Go with your instincts. If you don't feel this is the pup for you, then don't do it. I'm not saying your pup has this, I'm just telling you that if you don't feel right about it and your breeder might be a puppymill, and you truly feel the eyes may be looking in different directions, or you can see the white on the inside part of both eyes, then make for certain that this is what you want. |

I'm just confused why you are not following your gut instinct? If you think something is wrong with her, then why are you getting her? There are a lot of other breeders out there that would give you a very healthy pup! |

Well I don't really have a choice now, I didn't suspect anything until just in the last week or so when I noticed other puppies that this breeder had posted online for sale and in the background of these pictures I seen cages of puppies in what looked like a garage. Then seeing these dogs that have eye problems made me look at my pictures of Zoey a little closer. I have already paid for her, paid for her shipping ect. I think I am stuck in this unless I get her and the vet fins something to be wrong with her. What else do you suggest I do? I haven't ever been in a situation like this! When I bought her I asked millions of questions just like I did to the other breeders I got my other yorkies from and everything seemed to work out. I called references and they seemed happy with their puppies and didn't have any problems. |

Looking at those pictures it appears puppy has strabismus. Strabismus is a condition that can affect one eye or both. Simply put..it means the eye does not focus in the correct direction. It can be congential strabismus OR the result of some other neurological condition which affects the part of the brain that coordinates the eyes. It is impossible to know which it would be without knowing any other symptom puppy may have or additional testing. My daughter...(the non fur kind) had strabismus which was surgerically corrected by shorting the muscles in her eyes at 14 months old. Since the eyes focus in different directions...the brain is receiving two different images and eventually "turns off" the vision in one eye...meaning blind in one eye. Saying this gently....as much as it is in us to want to rescue an animal...I would not knowingly purchase a sick puppy nor one that came from a puppymill. |
Thanks for the info. It was not my intention to purchase a puppy from a puppymill or one that I even suspected which is why I asked millions of questions making sure that their dogs are family pets that they breed and not stuck in kennels. I also spoke to several references and everything seemed to check out. I guess you can never really know what you are getting in to when you purchase a puppy online. Which I will never do again! And I will never buy a puppy from someone that I can't physically goto their home and see and pick out the puppy myself! I of course don't want any puppy to suffer and want to rescue her but then again I dont want to end up with a sick puppy! |

should be held accountable... stop selling and producing puppies,, even if he is not perfect, im sure he can be a wonderful pet.. the breeder should pay the new owner.. in my opinion:aimeeyork |
Why can't you fly there? The reference I would ask for....is their vet. Yes, personal references are nice but no one will willingly provide you with a reference from someone who had a problem with a puppy. |

Puppy look fine I'm sure your pups fine. Like the other said, she looks like she was watching something off to the side..the things we do to keep the dog still, or get them to pose.Enjoy your new furbabie, and let us know how you're doing!!!:) |

I see your quandry. Call their vet. That is the only way to know for sure. Do it today before the puppy is shipped. When shipping, the puppy must have a vet certificate of good health, and they are supposed to report any conditions which could affect the health of the dog. Find out who is doing the certificate and call them -- ask the question directly. Then you might have enough information to make your decision. |

I can't fly there because I am 34 weeks pregnant with twins. I have sent an email in to the breeder to request again their vet information. I spoke with him before and didn't have any concerns about the puppies that he breeds but I am wondering if I ask the vet about this specific puppy if he will be willing to give me any information. Thanks for the advice! |
Any response yet?? |
I wasn't able to get ahold of the vet that he uses today. I am wondering if because of the weekend they are closed. Well, I guess we will see what happens when my puppy is shipped tomorrow. The breeder assures me that she is healthy and fine but will get my vets opinion on everything on monday morning. I am hoping I am just being paranoid and that everything is fine. But if we do find something wrong then atleast I made sure to get the health guarentee. I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow after I pick her up from the airport and then again after she sees the vet on Monday. Thanks! |
i think the puppy is beautiful oh i believe the baby is precious. its beautiful just love it and what ever happens god put it in your path and i think its a blessing! CONGRATS!!!!!:D |
This explains what hydrocephalus is: Hydrocephalus Do you know what the health guarantee is? Many breeders only cover a puppy for 72 hours. Best case is usually replacing the puppy or paying for vet bills only up to the cost of the puppy. If this puppy has a serious health problem, you could spend a fortune in vet bills you wouldn't be reimbursed for. |
if you have a feeling that this seller is a puppy mill i would personally not purchase the puppy to begin with. Sure it is sad what this dog will have to deal with but by you purchasing the dog you are funding a puppy mill. And then the fact that you suspect she could have eye issues is another signal maybe you shouldnt purchase her. if i were you i would not go through with the deal. For all you know when you get her there could be other issuers when you take her to the vet. So you have a health guarantee because if not that is yet another clue that this dog is because not a good idea. |
When does the puppy arrive?? |
