Thanks so much and I am so sorry Zoey and you went through that. You definately understand my fear. I do use petzlife and I'm going to start brushing twice a day and hope it helps. My biggest concern is that when I was brushing today a tooth felt loose. Her teeth are so darn tiny and I can barely even get into her mouth. My fiancee will be here in a bit and I'm going to get him to help me so we can check. If it is, this is such a bad sign. :( |

I know how scared you must be. Pixie also has terrible teeth and gums and is just 2 years old. The vet said to try and brush every day and use Petzlife. I have been doing this for 5 weeks and there is some improvement but I know she still should have a professional cleaning When I had Cali spayed I had her done at a state of the Art ER hospital due to her needing a liver biopsy and possible obstruction, and the same place did a liver biopsy on my pom about 8 months ago and she stopped breathing but the critical care doctor was there and got her breathing again 15 minutes after she stopped. They were breathing for her. When I had Dixie (RIP) under the care of a kidney specialist when we thought she had a chance to make it, he said he would only want her spayed at their specialty clinic so they would have all the technology and experience to insure she could pull through with her kidney failure. Sorry this is so long, but if you can find a specialty clinic with state of the art equipment and critical care experience that may be safer. I know it is more costly. |
Using Petzlife can help with this issue, but what if a situation should arise where Pia needs to go under? Maybe you can contact the vet that has moved across country and ask for a recommendation, a vet that has experience working with really tiny animals. Or maybe someone here who has a tiny baby can recommend a vet he/she uses in your area. |

Hey Sarah, hugs to you because I know you are a nervous wreck about London. If I find out the name I will definately let you know. I don't know of any natural pet places around here that sell anything like that. I have to wonder if these are what I just ordered  They are natural bones and a few had filling in them. However, they can't be the same because London would not be able to chew them. They would be toooooooo big. Any chance you know of a website that sells them?? |

I do know with the PetzLife that you're not supposed to use it every day after the original 30 days. I have seen some other threads about another dental product that others recommend, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. I believe I've also read threads about adding apple cider vinegar to their water to also help with the teeth and breath. And I've seen some other products sold at the pet store you can add to their water as well. |

I'm so sorry you went through all of that with your babies. I'm going to check about a specialty clinic for her. This is a very good suggestion and I thank you so much. ;) |

I'm working on finding out where she is. I just wish I would have known about this because I definately would have went and talked with her. I'm sure the new vet is who she'll recommend but I'm not comfortable with that. I need to know that this vet has been around for a good while and hear about him from other people. I hope that made sense. Yes, I definately need to find a new vet incase any of my babies require any type of attention. I just figure once I find a vet for the teeth, then I will have my good vet. |

I wish I had your vet near me. ;) That truly is wonderful advice. I plan to really crack down and brush twice a day using the petzlife for a month and then I'll still brush twice a day but with something less harsh. I guess I'll just switch off every other day with something else. I do use some type of stuff in the water but I think its pretty worthless. I'm trying everything before it comes down to putting her under. Thanks again for all the help. ;) |

Thanks so much Sarah. I'm going on a mission tomorrow to find those bones. :p I must admit they are certainly nasty looking for a vegetarian's eyes. I hope I can find some. I can see her liking them. The other bones definately sound like the ones we have. Mine put their noses up to them. Our babies sound so much alike. ;) Thanks again for the help. Hugs :) |
I dont have any answers but I just wanted to send hugs....:ghug: |
I am so sorry you are faced with this. Its a tough decision all the way around. |
Hi Dina... I am so sorry about Pia and know your concerns. When Grizzley Bear was alive he was diagnosed with the liver shunt. So when it came time to get his teeth cleaned or pulled. I was referred to the University of California, Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. I was very impressed on the kindness and how well they handled him. As Patti said in her post in reference to state of the art equipment. They had that also. Maybe if you have a University around you that has a Vet Hospital School they may be able to help you. My heart goes out to you for I know you want the best care possible for Pia.I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my thoughts. Hugs to all of you! Mary |
