Does anyone use trader joe dog food?
 
If so what do you think of it? I picked up a can the other day because Alphy wasn't eating again. In part because Murphy is a big pig. I also can't get Murphy to eat his puppy food, he only wanted Alphy's food, so I mixed them. Anyway, I thought if I bought a can of soft food and mixed it Alphy would eat and sure enough he does. Yea!!! But I wanted to know if anyone thought it was a good food or not. I'm very nervous about soft food because of the past recalls.

Not bad at all, really. Pretty darn great! Guar gum is in a lot of premium canned foods. The only thing that might be an issue is if your dog would have any problems with soy - so you may want to take a look at that. Any info on where it's manufactured - might want to peek at the can. I think recently TJ's discontinued many/any dealings with China, didn't they? So, that's good...:)

OK I'm like Trader Joes #1 fan but that doesn't look all that great. "Animal liver" could be ANY animal, otherwise it would say "Chicken liver" and the soy proteins look like filler. We feed Merrick, Nature's Variety or Evangers. Here's the Evangers Drummettes ingredients: CHICKEN (DRUMMETTE), CHICKEN BROTH, POULTRY, BEEF, CARROTS, PEAS, PASTA, VITAMIN a ACETATE, VITAMIN D3 SUPPLEMENT, VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT, ASCORBIC ACID, NIACIN SUPPLEMENT, d-CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, RIBOFLAVIN SUPPLEMENT, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, PYRIODOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, VITAMIN B12 SUPPLEMENT, BIOTIN, FOLIC ACID, ZINC SULFATE, FERROUS SULFATE, MANGANESE SULFATE, COPPER SULFATE, CALCIUM IODATED AND SODIUM SELENITE.

It's probably a cheaper protein than, say, meat - but still a very good protein - as long as your dog isn't allergic to it. Also, I'm not a huge fan of giving your dog (or human, for that matter) soy every single day (you've probably heard of those studies). Fillers are things that are mostly non-nutritional, like beet pulp and other junkers.

Haha you're so funny. :D And you're right - it's not a filler. I was comparing it to the super high end brands but really we should be comparing it to the other "grocery store" brands in which case it is definitely a far better choice. Which, now that I am awake and can think straight, it pretty much how Trader's is. Most of their stuff isn't super health foods, but just regular stuff they take the preservatives and additives out of. Like they have brand-name-like-stuff but without the chemicals and preservatives and MSG and hydrogenated oils. People always ask me why I shop at a "health food store" Heehee. Traders is not healthy in the low-fat, calorie sense unless you want it to be. You can still fill up on cookies and ice cream and potato chips, they are just better for you :) OK sorry I'm done now.
