Maxx ate a raisin!!!!!!!!
 
:eek: Okay hubby was serving my son raisins and dropped one, Maxx ate it!!! I know they are toxic, he only had one though, should I rush him in or just watch him? He is 11 1/2 weeks old and weighs 3.2 lbs, at last check which was a week ago......please let me know!!!!

Definitely call your vet.

For what its worth my vet said a grape a year is ok, if we felt the need to feed Punkin one.

Let us know how you make out.

I'm sure it is fine but since he is so small, I'd induce vomiting.

With him being that young I would call the vet just to check! Hope all goes well!

You might want to check out this website, "no one has reported poisoning from their pets ingesting the occasional single grape or raisin. The cases we have received involved ingestion of 2 ounces to 4.4 ounces." http://www.dogpack.com/health/GrapesRaisinsAndDogs.html

Thank you all for your help, the vet just said to keep an eye on him, that typically one raisin wont do harm, and Maxx is fine, running around, eating & drinking like his normal puppy self!! THANK GOD!!!! :D

Ever since I got Yorkies, I don't keep raisins in the house anymore. It's too dangerous. They could easily eat several of them so fast.

Glad he is okay:)
Since the minimum toxic amount of grapes and raisins isn't really known, I might have induced vomiting with 3% hydrogen peroxide for a small dog (especially if they ate more than one). I wouldn't do this for a big dog unless they ate three or four.

One raisin should not be a concern. I am sure your vet will tell you that.

Honestly, until 2 yrs ago I had no clue not to give grapes or raisins...I used both for treats...I should have had a houseful of dead Yorkies...I do not give them now since I know better...and my good friend used to buy chocolate Easter bunnies for all her Yorkies...we must have tough Yorkies despite us trying to kill them..LOL

You make a good point. When I was young, there use to be chocolate covered dog treats, not carob, but actually chocolate. Many of the things that we now know to be harmful to dogs came about from dogs eating large quantities of the substance. If dogs get a hold of certain food items they seem to have no sense of fullness and will eat vast quantities of something. So the list of harmful substances continues to grow; and with yorkies being so small, it's wise to cautious if it eats of even a small quantity of one of the forbidden items.

It is true isnt it...when we were younger and had pets, none went to the vet, none got shots, we fed them table food and they chewed on bones yet they lived long healthy lives. It sometimes makes me wonder if all the stuff we give our pets now actually makes them sick:(

I did not even know about raisin's with Yorkie's.
I have printed of the listed someone on here very kindly supplied, and have it pinned inside Tinkerbell's food cupboard.
