| Baytril and diarrhea? I've been caring for my sister's 15 y/o (14 lbs) yorkie Zippy for a couple of months now and last week he came down with his horrible hacking cough. At first I thought it was because of the dry weather, so I got a humidifier which seemed to ease it a bit but he was still hacking. I took him to the vet and she said he has tracheaitis, I was like how the heck did he get that?! Especially since he is up to date on his bordotella vaccination, she told me its not 100% and since he is older his immune system is more susceptible to such things (very shocking!). She said he most likely got it from one of my boys, who carried it in from the dog park, groomer, pet stores and since they are young and healthy are resistant to it. She prescribed Hycodan which turned out to be discontinued by the manufacturer, and tetra-cycline syrup form which pharmacies don't usually carry. I went to three different pharmacies to make sure. The vet then prescribed Baytril (1 tablet 2x/day) and Turbotrol to ease the cough (1/4 - 1/2 tablet 2-3x/day). At this point I'm relieved I can finally give him some medication to get rid of this hacking. Ok, so first night I give him the new meds he has really soft stool. Next morning I give it to him - diarrhea (3 times), I called the vet and they just said not to give him his evening dosage and continue in the morning. So I figure insted of giving him a whole tablet of Baytril, I only gave him 1/2 tablet. Poops aren't diarrhea but are still very soft, he is also eating moist food so I figured he wouldn't have very solid poops anyway. Now my my question is do I continue giving him 1/2 tablet, reduce to 1/4 tablet or call the vet to change him to a different medication?
