Those sulfer dips can make your dog really sick I would not do them unless your dog had mange and had to be treated. Chachi had them and got diahrea and vomiting from them. He needed them though since he had mange

HELP .. again...
OKAY also today at the vet she gave me a flush for his ears because they had wax buildup. Well now all of a sudden hes scratching his face on the floor and biting his paws. He is on an allergy food already! Why why why, Ive had nothing but issues with my pup. This vet is pissing me off already, I never get straight answers and none of my problems have dissapeared and there isnt another around for an hour, since I live outside of Corpus(the nearest city by me) in the middle of literally no where. I know a pup costs $$$ but geez Ive spent alot of money already and am getting no where.

Also what have yall heard of old mother hubbard puppy chicken treats. Could this be causing him to itch his face? I just started giving those on saturday.

The vet belives that Hot Rod may have ringworm. She did a black light test and is culturing it but that will take 5 days. She has ordered medication to get him started. She believes that he had it before we got him. We'd done the oil and food thing thinking it was allergies. I'm upset because we brought home a new puppy last week who now will have to be treated! The only sympton that he had was his itching--no spots or lesions (sp?).

I hope you figure out what is going with your baby soon.

Does he have dry skin too? Is it flaky?
Also can it be transmited to humans?

Ringworm is contagious and can be given to other animals and humans.

I just read through everything. I wouldn't do the sulfer dips because it stinks and i think it dries them out more. If you suspect food allergies, the duck and potato is a good food but you must ONLY feed this food and nothing else. No treats, no table scraps. Just this dry kibble. It can take up to 3 months to see results but stick with it. Also you can add fish oil and vitamin e to the food. I use this one http://www.healthypets.com/deei8oz2ml.html

also, make sure you brush him every day. this will loosen up the dead skin and make him less flakey.

Yes, the ringworm is contagious. The vet asked right away if we had seen any red circles on us. Hot Rod's skin was very dry and flaky. Even after grooming and me combing him he was flaky. We've had him since 15 weeks and he is 6 1/2 mos old and he has been scratching the whole time. Despite his scratching, his skin looked okay-no scabs or scars or marks, just very dry. According to what the vet gave me today to read up on is that you must be very diligent in cleaning the areas that may be infected. She also told me that we need to have 2 clean test results before we can be considered cured.

Sully also had ringworm before we had him, and he had it about 5-6 months after we got him. It is a long process that takes a lot of diligence! Although it may be contagious to humans, neither me or any family who has been around Sully has gotten it.

Thank you. Ill make sure, no treats. I just feel so bad because he is so young and trying to train him with the treats would help.

yeah that does stink. if he really likes the food you can try using that as treats. he may not know the difference.

I just ordered yorkie yummies beef/liver ones(2 days ago before all this). they contain rice, egg and the meat. I wonder if those r okay. I guess I can freeze them when I get them, or just ask the vet.

The original Yorkie Yummies have beef in them, so they are not okay.

You can give the ingredients in the food as treats.
For example, if it is duck and potato, you might get away with giving boiled potato pieces (peeled).

This wouldn't work with a food like Science Diet Z/D though. They do something to the ingredients of that food, so even dogs allergic to the ingredients can eat it (sometimes).

Got 2nd opinion
 
I was talking with a friend of mine who works at a cat rescue and she recommended that I get a 2nd opinion about Hot Rod. Coincidentally I found out that my old vet from years ago is practicing close to where I have moved to. She still wants to find the results of the culture but she has prescribed a histamine, medicated shampoo and ear wash and medication. She found yeast buildup in his ears and did another scrapping. While she cannot rule out ringworm, she doesn't think that is the case. She is leaning towards food a food allergy. I really didn't want to give medication if it wasn't necessary so we all decided to hold off on ringworm meds til results come in. I feel better being able to be proactive with the new treatment prescribed. I won't be able to use shampoo for about a week because Hot Rod was just neutuered Monday but at least his ears will be cleaned out. I am very glad that I decided to listen to my friend and got another opinion. Maybe you might want to do the same.
