wondering what to feed my new Puppy. I am having to suffer the long 9 week wait for my puppy but i am getting all the information I can now before out little guy comes home. In his home now they are eating Purina Puppy Chow but I am not sure if this is the best for my baby. I was looking at Royal Canin or Eukanuba. I think so far I am more infavor of the Eukanuba but wanted to ask the pros. |
Welcome to YT:) I wouldn't feed Purina, Euk or RC. They are all full of fillers and possibly chemicals. Purina products have unnamed animal products in their food. Eukanuba or Iams has done inhumane animal testing and Royal Canin has caused a lot of Yorkies to be very itchy (including mine). How about Wellness, Canidae, Natural Balance? |
As Ellie May said, I wouldn't feed any of my animals anything that Iams or Eukanuba makes, if you do searches on them, you'll find lots of horrible info on things they've done to animals as well as law suits. I feed Maggy May Wellness Just For Puppies (they are changing the name to Welless Super Five Mix) and she does wonderfully on it. Her coat is awesome, so shiney and pretty, she doesn't have itchiness and the kibble s all natural. They have awesome all natural treats as well. Good luck! |

For young puppies I recommend Chicken Soup Puppy or Solid Gold Wee Bits. |

When you are feeding your children you want only the best for them. Same goes for your furbaby. I know how you feel about feeding and I went to a health food store for pets and that is where I learned about the different kinds of food that is out there. The girl at the store was incredibly informative and she was able to explain to me the difference between the so called good store bought foods to the food that they sell. I got the smallest can of Wellness puppy and gave Odie 1 tsp.. he gobbled it up and was licking his little lips. HE LOVED IT!! Needless to say he has been eating the same food since. How old is your baby? |
Milo is 5 weeks old and comming home April 6th. |

On a side note, I've been feeding Royal Canine and Joey loves it and has been doing very well on it, but people do make me feel like I'm really harming him. He use to be really fussy and wouldn't eat other dog foods, now that he's older I've been thinking about trying something different because of all the coments I read. It is confusing. |

Canidae is usually found at small pet stores. Natural Balance is sold at Petco, I think and Wellness may be sold there also. |
Hi there!!! When I got my little one they had been feeding her Puppy Chow:thumbdown She was very scrawny and had a canon butt! I immediately switched her to Solid Gold Wee Bits and mix it with a little Innova canned puppy food. She loves it and I haven't had any problems with her since:thumbup: |
years ago, when I was growing up, purina was one of the only foods out...we had our chihuahua on purina until the day he died, at 19 years...My Mom always fed purina puppy food and then purina adult food..My golden retriever that died(was put to sleep at 18, as she had cancer), was on kibbles and bits most of her life...Now, I did put mine on a food thats out, called Taste of the Wild, it's supposed to be good for them, I had 4 very sick dogs, diarrhea and throwing up, so, I had to make a quick trip in to town yesterday, and got them back on nutro ultra..find a food that works and that they like, and then stick to it..everyone has their own opinions on food..a lot of breeders feed purina and pedigree..My sister has had her dogs on pedigree for a long time, and they all do fantastic on it..Her one yorkie is 12 and still going strong.. |
hi there, I just got back from the vets with Odie and he has gained another 4ozs.. so he is now a whopping 1 lb 4 ozs.. I am so happy that he is doing so well :D |
I raised my girls on Royal Canin,,after researching before bringing home my First Yorkie,, thought i was doing good by them,, (they did well on it),, but after I found Yorkie Talk,, i've been "enlightened" LOL,, for my girls i've switched over to Merrick,, only recently,, and its going GREAT,, they love it,, and after researching further,, find Merrick to be a superior feed,, i'd say decide for yourself by researching at www.dogfoodsanalysis.com which is where i was sent and read and read and read somemore, lol, best of luck with your new baby,, and Welcome to YT!!!:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |

Hi and Welcome! I understand the confusion and turmoil over foods. Just when I thought I had found the BEST for my babies, I realized they were loaded with things that could be not so good for them. I went to the dog food analysis site linked to above and it REALLY enlightened me. Research the foods, then make a decision you can feel comfortable with. Everyone has their own idea of what is 'best' and we need to just make up our own minds and find something and stick to it. It really is best to not make sudden changes in the diets and vary the snacks/supplements more than the base foods. |
There is so much information I went to websites and looked up the food posted and now more undecisive than ever. I was thinking ok I'll just prepare the food here at home then I found why not to do that. I just know I have a few more weeks to see what to do. I think this is the most important thing I have been so excited about our little guy comming home looking at clothes, piddle pads, books, toys, baby gates, beds, bowls, leads, bows ect... but I need to find the food to keep him healthy and happy and i don't want to make a mistake. T was really going to choose EUK, or CR but now I am looking to the others now. Thanks again I will still be looking and reading here. |
Is anyone using Lifes abundance It looks good to me just don't want to have a veil over my head is it truly the food sent from HEAVN? |

I have no idea but on the pet channel they were saying that when you fix home cooked meals that most of the time they are to high in fat and don't have enough of the total vitamines needed for your pet but I really haven't researched that yet. I did look at a few recipes and they looked wonderful to me but I am no dietitian. I really do like the idea though because after looking at what is really put into petfood I am really scared to feed that to my baby. I would like knowing what they are eating and supplements I'm sure would be fine and a little extra walking or just playing fetch would be fine. |
