yes I went to petco and petsmart and at both stores I asked what is the best to use on a puppy and they were all anything that says puppy (coming from the groomers). But yet everything they were saying to use says 12 weeks. So I come on here and ask what people use and baby shampoo was recommended so being desperate since I cant find anything I used it. Minksheen and all the others are recommended at 3 to 6 months.

I just want to know what is puppy safe. Everyone on here has yorkies so they had to be a puppy at some point and I know they had to be bathed so I figured this will be the best place to ask.

When I asked my vet about this, she said with the cold weather, there wasn't really much we could do about the dry skin except maybe get a humidifier for the room.. Maybe you can try that?

I will, your dog in the avatar looks like a puppy. Which shampoo would you use on a little one?

Yorkies aren't recommended to leaving their mother before the age of 12 weeks, she just licks them clean, and I doubt if you want to do that. I would use one of the puppy shampoos and dilute it, don't bath too frequently, no more than once a week. I know newborn human babies sometimes have a condition know as cradle cap and there's an overproduction of oil glands than can cause flaking, but I don't know if this same thing occurs in dogs. Sometimes when we try to correct a problem we do more harm than good. This may be a question more for a breeder because they are more familiar with puppies that age.

Franklin didn't come to us until he was 13 weeks and after that we just started using normal puppy shampoo. Now he's 5 months old and we use Buddy Wash and Buddy Splash. So far, I love it! I'm also going to add some fish oil/vitamin E supplement to his food once he's a bit older. I'll use EicosaDerm.

I'm not really sure what to use on a 7 1/2 week old pup. He's awfully young. If he doesn't get too stinky, I might just wait until he's a little bit older. Until then, only bathe if absolutely necessary (every 2 weeks?) and I would use diluted puppy shampoo.

ok i went to go check for you. i am using "HARTZ puppy shampoo".. it says nothing about not being able to use it on under 12 weeks. it just says gentle tearless formula etc. ive had pebbles since she was 8 weeks 6 days and ive been using it on her weekly.. she just turned 12 weeks. try getting that one (I either got it at target or petco).

Hi, I use a shampoo from Petsmart called DermCare, oatmeal with aloe shampoo. Its ok for all ages. I did read as well, not to use human shampoo on pups, it has more to do with the skin ph vs. the hair. I would not use baby lotions either. I purchased a Vitamin E oil, found it at Walmart, I like it because its all Natural. I take a dab on my finger, I mix it with a drop of water and then rub on the affected area of the pup.

Do you use the conditioner spray too.

The dermcare leaves the hair pretty soft to where you don't need a conditioner. I do occassionally spray with nova pearls, fresh scent deodarant... it controls pet odors, moisturizes skin and coat.
