Otis has allergies (not sure exactly what he's allergic to) The vet just said "hayfever". He is on Eagle Pack Holistic Select Duck meal and oatmeal. It's formulated for babies with allergies and sensitive bellies. He is also on missing link. He has greatly improved with these 2 things. I don't even give him the hydroxyzine anymore. Good Luck in finding what she's allergic too! It's so frustrating, I know. Hope you find something to give her some relief. |

missing link also make her sick..... So glad Otis is doing better! |
We used to use an oatmeal spray in addition to the oatmeal shampoo (and you may want to try another shampoo... I am not so sure about cranberries on the skin). We had a schnauzer that had allergies also. We found out that she was allergic to grass!! Have you tried keeping her out of the grass for awhile??? |

we have snow here... no grass right now!!! a spray??? where from?? |
Try some Flax oil with her food. Maybe she will be able to handle that. It is good for skin, coat, eyes and has other healthy benefits as well. Also, like others have already mentioned, use a very gentle shampoo.:) |

Here's one that we used...... they have many types available.... check your local pet store. Kenic Oatmeal Conditioning Pet Spray Description: The oat proteins, wheat germ, emollients and fatty acids in Kenic Oatmeal Conditioning Spray provides relief from itchy skin associated with flea bites, grass and food allergies. It also loosens mats to reduce hair damage while brushing. Features: Contains no animal by-products. Kenic does not promote testing on live animals. Also available in a ready-to-use gallon size. A companion to Kenic Oatmeal Conditioning Pet Shampoo. Quote:

Are you sure it is food allergies (since she isn't eating chicken now) or could it be the weather drying out her skin? Is she scratching? Where? Would you prefer a supplement or do you think something topical could work? |

and her skin is not better in summer or winter... she has been flaky since the day we got her. i would prefer a suppliment... if it is topical i'd have to bathe her more and i'm trying to limit the baths. when she DID itch.. she chewed her paws.. now she just scratches under her chin, side of her face |
Yeah good idea to limit the baths, I have to do that with Otis too. He scratches for several days after a bath and I use minksheen. |
Oh, Layla...poor honey. What about Vitamineral Greens? They have been known to work miracles in some babies - esp. since they contain spirulina (very healing/mending). The ONLY thing is, it does contain some grass juices... What about contacting a nutritionist? I know it's expensive, and you're in college. But, ya know, I'm not participating in the GE (too lazy) - SO, I'd like to take that money and donate $15 toward the Layla nutritionist consult appointment - how 'bout it? Seriously, I would! :D |
