To get Jeter to stop chewing the hair off on his leg

I have caught him doing this a few times in the past few day's. He was at the vet's for a weight check and I asked about it and they checked to see if he had a rash or anything and he just has dry skin. I use Fresh and Clean oatmeal and baking soda shampoo and conditioner on him.

the vet didint give you any help on it sounds like dry itchy skin you might try going to petco or a pet store like that and look for some anti itch spray or cream for him hopefully that will help hun

Not really, they told me he had dry skin, we talked about food but he gets a great food and then we talked about how often I bath him and it was suggested that I might be over bathing him

I have been giving him a bath once a week but this week he got 2 because he got a bit muddy when the snow started to melt. I did notice he was just doing this to his front legs, not his back legs. I will definitely look into some cream or spray to see if that helps. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you so much for the kind words, I just hate for him to be so itchy that he would be chewing off his hair

I feel bad for him and I wish I knew what to do to help him. I also feel guilty thinking that I could be over bathing him and thus caused the problem myself.

I ceased bathing my guys so often due to constant itching..and making sure when I bathed them that they were rinsed REALLY well..I bought a nice natural waterless bath spray at the petstore and it keeps them smelling nice all month long..I bathe them monthly or longer if I can hold out..

Sounds like maybe he is either having problems w/ dry, itchy skin, or maybe allergic to something in the food he is eating. I would try switching his food out and seeing if that helps. Also, you can try adding some flax seed oil to what he is eating. This will help w/ dry skin. (Plus, it's good for their coat and has other healthy benefits as well.) Make sure that you are using a very gentle shampoo for now when you give him a bath...maybe even try something like a J&J baby/kids shampoo.
