Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I'm not an expert and don't know your answer. That does sound like a big gain, although with puppies you don't really want to hold back food. What are you feeding her and how much in a typical day?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain for now. I was just talking to a friend and her puppy had gained 1/2 lb in 10 days, which is substantial but afterall they are growing puppies. Much better that she is eating well and gaining than not. And, puppies I'm sure go thru phases of gaining more in some months than others, with the earlier months tending towards more weight gain. She'll probably level off with weight gain as the months go by. You might want to check into other foods to feed too. Eukanuba is not the best of foods although some feed it with no problems. IMO, there are much better foods for our little ones. You'll get many different opinions on what is best, so you might want to search the forum for threads where "best food" is discussed. Btw, congratulations on your little girl!

| ![]() Wow! I've had my puppy for 2 months and she hasn't gained a pound yet, she was on Eukanuba, but I changed to Artemis. When I changed the food is when she started to gain some ounces. The eukanuba was making my puppy itch, much better since we changed. Also, a 1/2 cup sounds like alot, is that the recommended feeding amount, or a half a cup for the day? Good Luck |

| ![]() Half a cup per meal sounds like a lot to me too. When I got my puppy he was on royal canin (which I changed immediately) however the serving size on the packaging was way off, I would definetely cut down and maybe your vet can help out with the correct portions.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Hmmm....well, it kind of seems like a lot, but maybe it's a "spurt". Weight gain can be relative though - so what is her actual weight? Do you think your scale is okay - can you weigh a can of soda to test its accuracy? My Marcel (got him at 16 wks) gained about an oz. a week - so a pound in 2 weeks seeeeeeems like a lot, but I don't know, it could mean nothing. 11 weeks is a very vulnerable age - so if it were me, I'd take her to the vet - she'll probably need some boosters soon anyway, so you could get some other things taken care of. Lastly, would you be interested in other foods? EUK is a pretty sub-par food - chock full of fillers and allergens....just something to consider as your pup is growing so much right now, nutritional support is key. ![]()

| ![]() she gets weighed at the vet so i assume its pretty accurate. shes been there twice since shes been w. me. once for a general puppy wellness checkup when i got her and now for shots. shes 11 wks and 2lbs 7ozs. im always up for suggestions. i can use as much help as i can get. my eukanuba packaging says no fillers tho ?? so im confused. I also have a bag of royal canine that she puked up when i gave her..... :-/ anywho, any food suggestions would be fine really. i also dont mind cooking myself for her to avoid bad ingredients. i see ppl do that here and supplement it. i dunno. ill hear whatever u have to say ![]() ![]() |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Here are the ingredients: Chicken, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Meal, Fish Meal (source of fish oil), Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E, and Citric Acid), Brewers Rice, Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Natural Chicken Flavor, Dried Egg Product, Brewers Dried Yeast, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Fructooligosaccharides, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Niacin, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Choline Chloride, Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), DL-Methionine, Marigold Extract (source of Lutein), Rosemary Extract The bolded items are concerns and/or possible allergens. Pulp is a total filler. Chicken, in some cases, can be allergenic - but not in all, so just keep that tid bit in the back of your mind. This is a place to learn about dog foods, I'll link to the spot where you can learn about Eukanuba (rated a 1-star food): http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...ct=116&cat=all If you want to stay w/ kibbles, good ones are: Natures Variety Instinct, Orijen, Wellness, California Natural, (Innova, but there is something going on w/ them right now). It'd be great to add in canned bc 1) adds moisture and 2) superior nutrition bc the meat is less processed (kibble is as processed as you can get). Usually, you can find premium pet foods at feed stores or quality pet stores/salons (not petsmarts/petcos). Hope this helps! ![]()

| ![]() Sadie gained 2 oz a week for a long time, then in two weeks she gained 8 oz. I talked to my vet and he said puppies can have growth spurts. I guess thats what it was cause now she is back to gaining about 2 oz a week. ![]()

| ![]() bindi was 1lb 9oz the first time i took her and 2 lbs 7oz the 2nd time. a gain of 14oz!!! dunno if it was a growth spurt or if i was feeding too much, but i think i would prefer to cook for her. i read thru the thread with the recipes and such. do u think itll be too much of a shock for her to totally switch or should i gradually add in home made food w. her EUK (which is not such a great food apparently lol) and gradually decrease the EUK until its completely home stuff? also, i have no clue about serving size. i was feeding her too big of portions it seems. and of course, she ate it all :-/ any clue how much i should give her of home made stuff? 1/4 cup? sorry for all the Qs.... |
