Puppy Weight? Hello, fellow Yorkie lovers! I was hoping everyone that can remember their dog's puppy weight could chime in and let me know. Any time that you can remember is good-- 8wks, 3 months, 6 months. I'm interested in the difference between the puppy weight to grown up weight. I know all dogs are different, but I'd like to get an idea from everyone's experiences. :) My puppy is 15wks and weighs just over 2.6 lbs. His mom was 3.5lbs and his father was 3lbs, which can sometimes make a difference. He's very petite where bones are concerned and has itty bitty paws (no stereotypical "puppy feet" for that boy). We've been on the hunt for the perfect Yorkie for (7?) years now. My mom had a Yorkie-poo in her teens that she adopted as an older dog and everyone loved her (Skippy) to death. Ever since, my mom has wanted a similar dog, in relation to size. I think Skippy weighed 3lbs, but maybe 4lbs. Our first Yorkie was a stereotypical "puppy mill" standard-- soft, easily matted hair, grey/white coloring versus silvery, quite large (20-some lbs). A few years later we got Maddie from a breeder. She's so close to being the perfect girl for showing, it makes me really want to breed her (something like 89 championships in her recent bloodlines). However, she got too big (12lbs), which to an extent was due to overfeeding. I'd guess that the right weight for her would be 7lbs-9lbs. And now she weighs a whopping 18lbs, because *someone* in the house refuses to cut the dogs food intake down and put them on diet food versus Kibbles'n'Bits (OH THE HORROR). So, a little over a month ago, I bought myself a new puppy. Due largely in part to the fact that my family says they won't let me take Maddie (my Christmas 2000 present) with me when I move out this summer. He's jsut what I wanted. :) Thanks! |
Let's see... We got Bentley when he was 16 weeks and he weighed 3.2 pounds. At 6 months he was 4.1 and now at 7 months he is 4.5 pounds. His mother was 7 pounds and his fater was 4 pounds, so I am expecting him to gain a couple more pounds before he is done growing. Congrats on the new puppy! |
i have it writen down brownie at 2 months was 2 pds 2 and a half months he was 3 and a half pds 3 months 4 pds it went up alot after that 2 years old he was 16 pds now hell be 3 in march and hes more than 20 pds |
18 weeks, 3.5 lbs, but a tad underweight the vet said. I think he'll be up to 4 lbs when we take him back in 3 weeks -- he's already more solid after 5 days. See the "poll" section here too -- it gives an average of weights, but it may not account for age (if you haven't already seen it). |
Mias weight chart I have tracked Mia's weight since I got her- she seems to be blowing away the chart if you look at her 12/13 wk weight. She was 40 oz(2.5 lb) at 13 wks, so by the doubling extimate (at 12 wks) should weigh about 5 lb as adult. 15 weeks - 2.56 lb 41 oz 16 wks 2.9 46.4 17 3.18 51 18 3.43 55 at the vet on this day she was 3.2 lb 19 3.62 58 20 3.96 63.4 21 4.11 65.8 22 4.2 67.2 at the vet at 22.5 wks was 4.2 23 4.4 70.5 24 4.68 lb 75 oz Her mom weighed 4.5 lbs, Dad only 2.5 lbs |
Wow! You guys have tiny tiny dogs! Archie was 5 lbs at 5 months, and then he just grew big. He's 8 months and weighs 9 lbs. I kinda like a bigger yorkie because I'm not afraid that I'm going to step on him (not like I'm a giant or anything). But I remember when he was smaller, he couldn't get on and off the bed or couch and he'd just sit there until I had to lift him up or take him down. And he couldn't sleep with me on the bed in case he needed to go in the middle of the night. But at 9lbs, he is big enough to jump on and off the bed, couch, etc. and he sleeps at the foot of the bed and moves to my pillow after I wake up! |
toby is 16 weeks and he weighs 4 lbs....... at 12 weeks he weighed 3 lbs |
My angel weighed not even 2 lbs when I got her. She was 8 weeks old. Now she is 3 years old and weighs between 5 and 6 lbs. At first the vet said I would be lucky if she ever even weighed 5 lbs. However she passed that mark.. :p |
We didn't really weigh Gypsy Rose on a regular basis (wish we had now) but she's 10 lbs now and on a diet! (She's 18 months and put on weight after being spayed) - Gizzie Chavi, however we DID weigh and when she went to the vet at 12 wks for her 2nd jab she was 0.8 kgs (1.76 lbs). At 14 wks she was 1.025 (2.26 lbs); 18 wks 1.215 (2.67 lbs). Now at 6 months old she is almost 3lbs and a featherweight!! We have bad gales here at the moment and I am afraid that she will blow away!! |

I've wondered about that as he hasn't gained too much weight, but when we were at the vet for his neuter (1 month ago) the vet told me to expect him to be a 6 or 7 pounder. I find it hard to believe he will still get that big. |
I could be wrong, but most yorkies do not grow a whole lot from 6 - 12 months, and any growth after that is usually gaining weight or <g> getting fat from over eating. |
Cecilia was 1.6 lbs at 10 weeks and then 2.2 lbs at 13 weeks. She was 3.8 lbs at 7 months. She is now 4.0 lbs at 10 months. She has only gained .2 lbs in the last 3 months. I don't really expect her to gain any more. Maybe a half pound up and down. |

Dolce was about 1 pound when I got her at 8 weeks. At 3 1/2 months she was 2.7 lbs. and now at a little over 5 months she is about 3.8 lbs. I thought she would get between 4-5 lbs. but we will see. To me she is still a little pipsqueak!! :) |
I know i was hoping to get a yorkie that would stay very small... i got very lucky in finding what i wanted ... Beaker is just a 10 days over 3 months now... when he was wieghed exactly at 3 months he was still under two pounds.... |
Molly was born May 29, so she is 7.5 months. Yesterday the vet weighed her at 7 pounds and said she is perfect, and she is full grown. Any more weight will be fat if we overfeed her. She's being spayed next Thursday, and I do worry about weight gain from that. If she keeps up her current level of activity, she will never gain another ounce! Val |
When I brought Toby home he was 10 weeks and he weighed right at 1lb. Now he is 5 months and weighs 2.5lbs. His mom was 2lbs and his dad was 3lbs. Toby is tiny but very stalky. He bones are quite large for his little body it seems. :) |
Oliver was just under 2 pounds at 12 wks and 2 pounds at 14 weeks...and now at 9 months he is 4 pounds exactly...i have heard to double the weight at 12 weeks to get a "rough" idea at how much your yorkie will weigh. Im not sure if this if often true, but it was for Ollie! |

As a breeder I cannot imagine someone breeding a 2lb yorkie. That poor little dog. As far as weights go, it really depends more on genetics than anything else. Not that I'm an expert on the subject but you hear of two small dogs having huge offspring.. hence somewhere (possibly grandparents) were huge. My stud is 5 1/2 lbs but the majority of his offspring are tiny. I know that he has teenies in his background and at the same time have thrown a couple of very large pups that ended up being about 9/10 pounds as adults. Just my little humble output. Thanks |
my pups name is also Bentley! He is 12 weeks old as of tomorrow and weighs 1.6 pounds which is the same weight he was about a week ago when we were at the vet. Im sure he has gained some weight, my home scale is probably just a bit off. But according to all the yorkie weight gaining charts and rules he will only be 3.5 to 4 lbs, which seems about right i guess. but i also heard they gain a bunch of weight once they are neutered...i hope he doesnt gain to much weight because 4 lbs would be ideal for me...we shall see what happens!!! :animal-pa |
Lucy was 1lb 10oz when we got her at 8 weeks. She's 5lbs now, at almost 7 months. |
I have a litter of 6 puppies and I can share the weight chart so far. The dame had tiny parents (3 lbs), but she turned out to be 11 lbs. The sire was 3.5 lbs. Male 1 7 weeks = 2 lbs 9 oz 13 weeks = 3 lbs 13 oz Male 2 7 weeks = 2 lbs 15 oz 13 weeks = 6 lbs 5 oz Male 3 7 weeks = 3 lbs 3 oz 13 weeks = 6 lbs 15 oz Female 1 7 weeks = 2 lbs 7 oz 13 weeks = 4 lbs 12 oz Female 2 7 weeks = 2 lbs 13 oz 13 weeks = 5 lbs 12 oz Female 3 7 weeks = 2 lbs 15 oz 13 weeks = 5 lbs 13 oz |

Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow Again, I have seen a few charts and SO many are different! |
At 3.5 months Samy was super tiny and small but I do not know how much he weight. At 4 months he was 2.8 pounds... at 5 months he was 3.3 pounds, now at 6 months he is starting with weight at 3.6 but i think he has grown a bit more so he might be around 3.8 pounds now. Samy is super dooper tiny though and I hope he grows more just for the safety of it :) |
Bronxie is a year old and she weighs 10 pds. when we got her she only weigh 2.5 pds and at the time she was 15 weeks. Brooklyn weighs 3.5 he is 8 mths now and we got him when he was 12 weeks he only barely weigh 2pds. Our newest addition is a yorkiepoo(Queens) she is 12 weeks tomorrow and she weighs 2pds already. I think it's hard to predict. I love my fatty Bronxie that is what I call her but it's getting hard to pick her up with one hand now and she loves to be picked up just like a baby. :) I wish Brooklyn was bigger though I don't like worrying about him getting hurt all the time. The yorkie growth chart has been pretty accurate with Brooklyn but not with Bronxie. |
Kali girl My Kali is 14 wks and probably weighs 2lb 8oz I am thinking her to be around 5 to 6 lbs full grown. But who knows the hole weight thing seems up in the air to me. |
Winnie 8 weeks; 12 oz 9 weeks; 14.5 0z 10 weeks; 17.6 oz 11 weeks; 21.4 oz 12 weeks; 24.4 oz 13 Weeks; 28.4 oz 14 weeks; 30.9 oz 15 weeks; 35 oz 20 weeks; 40 oz 21 weeks; 420z |
Presley is 18 weeks and weighs 4 lb 6 oz .What do you think his final weight will be .He seems small framed. |
Truffles are also small size girl.... 14 weeks- 2.1 lbs 16 weeks -2.5 lbs 21 weeks 2.8 lbs 24 weeks 3.0 lbs 27 weeks 3.15 lbs!!! I knew her parents were smaller side but I don't like when people ask me " She is Tea cup"? :( she is very healthy and medium figure. |
