Help Jolie' gave birth to 7 puppies on Monday...today (Wed.) I noticed that she has a few inverted nipples and they are hard like rocks and mild is leaking from them...and her two lowest nipples have not really been sicked on but the puppies were latching on the her skin and it is red and they have hard sacks in that area too. I wish I had noticed it earlier...I will bring her in to see the vet in the am. The puppies have not lost any weight...they pretty much all gained an ounce. Any suggestions on what to do? Greatly appreciated!!

Lay warm compresses on momma's belly a few times each day--this will help bring the milk down. Make sure the area around ALL the nipples is free from hair. Take the pups and place them on a teat that they didn't feed from the previous time--try to force them to rotate.

Back home Thanks for the comment...we went to the vet, he gave her a shot of Baytril, and 2 medications (Baytril and Rimadyl by mouth). We were told to put cold compresses on her just for today. Says she should be fine in a couple days. We need to keep a close eye on her. She is still feeding and caring for her puppies. Thanks for the support it is greatly appreciated.

That looks like a nasty case of it affecting more than one nipple! Poor girl. Last edited by 011011; 02-14-2008 at 05:56 PM.
