This site seems to be connecting undescended testicles and liver shunt::confused: http://clubs.akc.org/astc/health/astchlth/astcshnt/ |
Diddy went through the surgery back in November when he was 9 months old. I was a total nervous wreck! He was sore for a few days but bounced back really quick. I was so surprised by how fast he recovered! The hardest part was keeping him from licking his stitches and not jumping around. I had to keep a baby onsie on him until the stitches were removed. He had 2 small incisions. I was told it is best to have them removed because of a high risk of cancer. |
That's the same thing with Kobe, it can't be felt. I will schedule it soon. |
Please get it done soon. Crypty's tend to have more issues with behavior than dogs with normally descended testicles, something about the levels of testosterone. They are also extremely fertile!! Be careful with him around any females. The sooner you get it done, the less likely he will have any behavior problems that become habit. Ranger was a crypty, and had his surgery when he broke 4lbs., which was just last month. He also had four teeth pulled and an umbilical hernia fixed. He was a pretty sad pup for two days but bounced back super fast. The surgery will be a little more expensive than a regular neuter, but in the long run it is well worth it. My little guy was started to hump things and getting really bossy, but this has stopped completely about two weeks after the surgery. Good luck and please keep us posted!!! |
Finally Neutered! I just got him neutered yesterday. The undescended testicle was behind his left kidney so they had to open the abdomen. The only thing that made me upset is that they made an unnecessary incision in between his abdomen and his scrotum because they thought the undescended testicle was there. They were wrong and now he has an extra cut for no reason! He seems to be healing fine though. As soon as he came home he ate a lot and luckily, there were no signs of vomiting. Late at night around 4 in the morning he did diarrhea a little bit. He's already jumping around (thought he shouldn't but he seems to be too used to jumping everywhere) and walking without a problem. I took pictures of his sutures and I will be posting it later. I wanted to get an opinion about it because to me, it looks sloppy. Thank you for all your replies! |
From everything I've ever learned and been told, it is easier on the dogs to have s/n surgery earlier than later. So if this is something you are going to do regardless, I don't see any reason to wait for that reason. In regards to if the other 'little buddy' will drop in. It's still possible. One of our males didn't drop his first until he was 13 months old and the other didn't drop in until he was around 16 months old. (And even to this day, I swear one goes into hiding from time to time.) From what I understand, genetics aside, this is more common in the smaller males... |
Glad your baby is doing good! |

Glad your baby is doing well. Kobe's birthday is next month. I will wait at least another six months and see if it drops. Will keep you posted. |
Pee? I made Peanut wear a onesie cause the elizabethan collar doesn't fit him very well. He can still lick his side stitches and he's so sneaky! But wearing a onesies, he sometimes pees and it's all over his chest and incisions. I'm worried it'll damage the recovery process or infect him. He is on anti-biotics right now. Should I use anything to clean him? I tried using hurt-free antiseptic wash and I diluted it and sprinkled a little bit on him just in case. |
