Egg Shells or Bone Meal (w/Phosphorus) What are your reasons for giving one or the other? I am trying to decide between 2 products: Eggshell Calcium http://www.homevet.com/osc/product_i...products_id=39 Solid Gold Bone Meal http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/produc...al/140033.aspx The Eggshell Calcium boast that it is FREE of Phosphorus - while the bone meal has it? What is Phosphorus and is it needed - Good or Bad? |
you need phosphorus.. not sure why the one would have NONE>.. you need a calcium/pho. balance and i think solid gold is superb! |
I'd go with the Solid Gold. |
I started this thread a couple weeks ago: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...hlight=calcium Ca/Phos have to be balanced (some people just decide not to worry about it but it is supposedly very important). It is typically a 1.2:1 ratio and all the way up to a 2:1 ratio is acceptable. Solid Gold does have one that is balanced but bone meal has had contamination problems in the past, so I think I'd want to use one that is fit for human consumption. KAL bone meal qualifies but I don't think there is any phos in it. Maybe Solid Gold can guarantee that theirs isn't contaminated...I don't know. Here is the dictionary.com link for the phosphorus definition: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/phosphorus |
http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/produc...al/140033.aspx It is certified! I think it might be a good choice.:) |

Even though it is certified it still is made for pets and the regulations aren't going to be as good. Of course any animal supplement will be that way though... I don't think there is a right answer to this. |
I use the KAL Bone Meal for my two-I buy it at the human health food store. |
I know you are right  Why does it always have to come to a dead stop :( ...not fair, these are our babies :aimeeyork |
I have no idea how to really balance ca/phos but it appears that the one above is about a 2:1 ratio? What is fluoride doing in bone meal? |

Okay, I see it accumulates in the bone and tissue of animals...yum:mad: I am so tired of toxic chemcials. It is in our meat too then. |

Why not go with the KAL? |
