I was told the ALS foods are geared more towards the nutritional needs of a puppy and if anything 'bad' happened it would be that your adult dogs would gain a little weight on it. |
According to an article I read, with the exception of foods for dogs with medical issues (liver, kidney, etc.) there is no reason to feed specific life stages foods. This is a marketing ploy some dog food companies use. The reasoning is, most consumers have the tendency to be brand loyal. If they get you started using their brand with puppies, chances are you will continue to purchase their brand throughout your dogs life. I don't think their marketing departments research very many yorkie owners though. From my own feeding experience and the literally hundreds of posts read here, I believe yorkie owners are not so brand loyal. Many of us have started with a brand, researched and changed brands several times, for various reasons. If your puppy is healthy now, I wouldn't switch.:) |

Well, I spent 1 year at the Bellport Animal Hospital  - Long story, then I changed and spent that last year at Center Moriches, b/c of Dr. Duffy - AWESOME VET - I love him!!! Well, guess what  - He just left Center Moriches to go be with Dr. Howard in the *new* office in Eastport  - So, I am going to be 'collecting' my records and bringing them over to follow Dr. Duffy :D :D :D |

i bet the vets are getting like people doctors in that they are slaves to their drug reps.. drug reps/sales reps for vets are in increasingly popular field.. they will prescribe / advise of certain brands out of loyalty to the rep if this is working for your baby - and the initial vet had no problem with it i would not switch! |
Canidae has worked well with my dogs also..sometimes I just think the vet want us to use what they have in their office. |
oops..sorry wrong post. :( |

When I first got Livi, I took her for her vet check-up. She asked me what food we had her on and I told her Canidae. Our vet is SUPER picky about everything and she said, "GOOD! Keep her on it because it's a great high quality food!". I wonder if your vet has really done research on it or is just questioning it because it is for all ages. Tammy |
