Do you mean you buy supplements for human, not dog vitamins? Do they come in like pills or powders? |

The supplements can be purchased in a human health food store... |
I do add garlic in the amount specified to my healthy maltese's food. It helps keep fleas away and if given in small amounts, it is good. Do NOT give garlic if your dog is anemic though. Also, I do not add garlic to every recipe...I usually do one month on, two months off. |

Wow, where did you and Suzy learn so much about home cooking? Just from the book? I got a book for christmas, called Better Food for Dogs, I can't wait to delve into it and share what I learn. |
Books are really great resources :) Also, my yorkie has serious liver problems and was going downhill fast, even on prescription dog food...I had to find a way to make him healthy again, and I did soooo much research on dog nutrition because of him. I wanted to make sure and do it right because the littlest thing could cause him to seize. He is now free of seizures and bladder stones for 6+ months :) |
labrown, good luck with the book!! Let us know if you like it. Dr. Pitcairn's book is a really great one to read...It contains a lot of information on dog health and why they need certain vitamins and supplements. It also includes information on homeopathic treatments for certain ailments. It gives information on chemicals commonly used on dogs(ie. Fipronil, the main ingredient in Frontline) and the effects of using these chemicals on your dogs... |
