Are you in Cali? There is a puppy lemon law: Here read this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=113049 PLEASE DO NOT RETURN HIM - I have a very bad feeling about what she will do with him :( |
Ok, I am in tears over here thinking that you might return him. PLEASE DON'T According to that Cali puppy lemon law, you'll get $ back, but you have to notify the breeder within 5 days. BUT, you haven't even gotten any sort of test results back yet. Please call your Vet (general Vet) and schedule a Bile Acid Test. This test cost about $70 to $80. You will need to fast him for 12 hours, drop him off at the Vet for a 1/2 day. They draw blood, feed him a fatty food and then after 2 hours draw blood again. You'll get the results in a day or two. But this will show how the liver is functioning. If the #s are high they will lean towards MVD or a Liver Shunt. But at that point you have those results and if they are high, you will need it on your Vet's paper, and you will need to serve this breeder with them, b/c according to the law, you are entitled to $ back from her towards the Vet bills. MVD or Liver Shunt is NOT a death sentence. BUT first you need to find out IF he really has any liver issues at all. MVD can be controlled very easily but a special diet and supplements. A liver shunt (if operable) can be fixed, and he will live a very healthy life. Please try to do what you can for him, b/c if you return him, I fear for his life :( |

Yes, I know it is very scarey and it can get pricey, but please try to do what you can for him, b/c honestly you are probably the ONLY one that will. Read up about the Lemon Law and once you get the Bile Acid Test results back, you get them to her ASAP along with the Lemon Law information. You might have to send them certified mail to have proof that she received them. Again, liver issues are not the end of the world, ok? I have 2 and so far I have Bile Acid tested them both 3x each. My girl has higher #s and we did other blood work (approx. $150) for them to see if 'other' things were off that would conclude liver issues. We also did an ultra sound ($350) - I don't really recommend that though, b/c even though her liver was normal shape and normal size and NO shunt was seen, it doesn't mean there is not a shunt. Your baby is still young, so I am assuming he hasn't been neutered yet. So that means, if his Bile Acid Tests are high, you can speak with your Vet about taking a Liver Biopsy at the same time they do his neuter, which would also be less expensive. Anyway, I am just trying to help you to help him :) BUT - No matter what - Go after his breeder for $ - It's the LAW!!! And PLEASE DON'T GIVE HIM BACK :( I will be here for you if you have any questions or need help understanding anything, ok? :D :D :D |

I don't want to downplay how serious his problem could be, but I wanted to give you a little hope that it could really be nothing serious. My mom's dog, Jake, has had a "shakey" head since she got him. He doesn't do it all the time, but if he looks up suddenly or hears something unusual or sometimes for no reason at all his head sort of bobbles. It's not a fierce shake or anything, but more like his head takes a little time to balance. My great grandmother had parkinson's disease and his head bobble reminds me of the way her head would shake. It's sort of like he's very faintly shaking his head "no". He tested out normal for everything and is now 7 years old and healthy as ever. We just call it his little quirk. It is my hope that your puppy will turn out fine. I know there is usually a reason for ever symptom, but this one doesn't effect Jake at all and he has had no trouble out of it in 7 years. |
A neurologist already? I'm surprised. You don't need to see a neurologicst unless his liver is fine... Yes, have your vet do a bile acid test (and they should've thought of that a loooong time ago). Then if that comes back okay, go to the neurologist. If the levels are elevated it could be shunt or MVD. These are not death sentences. If the numbers are in one range and shunt is suspected. If they are in another MVD is suspected. You can also do a Protein C test to help diagnose which one it is. After this testing does get expensive, but if it turns out to be MVD your dog will do on a low protein diet and be supplement forever. If it is a shunt outside the liver surgery has to be attempted. This is about $1300 at University of Tennessee. They are the best. It is being done all over though and has about an 85% success rate. And I haven't had a chance to read all the responses but please listen to TLC. She has been through it with this. |
If it is liver problems, it is not a death sentence. TLC is completely right...Believe me, my yorkie was diagnosed before he was even one years old, and he was much worse off than yours...He had seizures and bladder stones and all kinds of things...He was given a very grim prognosis, but he will be 4 yrs old in April now, and thanks to his diet and supplements and lactulose, he is doing great and completely seizure-free... |
Good luck with your baby.my mickey has started shaking a lot too and im also concerned about him so i am taking him to the vet to get checked.you get great advice here so heres hoping all is good. |
Well the Vet just called me and said it would cost $80 to do the Bile and he would also like to do a liver panel, I told him what was going on with the breeder and he gave me a dicount on the liver panel from $75 to $45 he strongly recommend I get them both done at the same time so he can better determine if it is the liver? Anyone have any feed back? I said that would be fine. |

I agree that the more blood tests done will help to determine what direction to go in. The Bile Acid Test is great, but other things can be done too to see how and if the liver is effected. I think you are on a GREAT PATH NOW! Keep us posted ;) |
I just spoke to the breeder and told her I was going to try and help my puppy out and can you believe she said don't waste your money! After all this is done and I get over this I will definetly report her and have her shut down! She is heartless, She keeps telling me she's going to give me another puppy |

Now, if you were to give him back, she would definatley Put Him to Sleep - How sad :( :( :( Please read up on the Lemon Law - B/c you have 5 days to contact the breeder once you get those test results back. You may have to take her to small claims court, but heck, the law is the law, so you would definatly win. I know you are a good Momma and you will do what you can to get your baby well. ;) |
Just checking in.... Did he get the BAT done? Have you gotten the results yet? |
just checking to see how youre baby is doing. |
Hi We got the test and results yesterday, Everything came back normal the numbers were 5 and 20. So the Dr has now ruled out the Live shunt or any problems with his Liver. He said he was doing research on his head tremors and he is suspecting a cerebellum (brian) disease he showed me the book he had been reading and showed me a couple of diseases it could be. He wants me to go to a neurologists now. :( |
I am so pleased that you got such good advise from all the caring people who have had problems with liver disease (even though it was not that) aren't they just wonderful?:) Your vet seems to be a good chap, and hopefully he can set you on the right path. Please let us know what the neurologist has to say. You are a wonderful mommy and whatever the problem is , please know that there will always be someone here with advise and prayers. Whatever happens, you make sure that breeder gets what she deserves. I will be praying for you and your baby. Hugs Sheilagh |

Have you made the appt. to see the specialist yet? Have you looked into the Lemon Law stuff, you will be able to hold the breeder responsible, but just make sure you contact her once you get some more results (remember the 5 day part) Keep us posted :( |
Yes Thank you all for the advice!:D :) :D It really has helped me, and thank you all for your prayers! The Vet told me to call him in a couple of days and he would do more research and call around to see if there are specialist in the area. He did suggest we try this medicine (forgot the name) on Kipper to see if the tremors would stop, he had read about in his book, but I told him to let me think about it. Thanks again to everyone! |

No I haven't made an appointment yet, The Vet told me to call him back so he could recommend a good one. |
continuing to pray for your little one. May you soon have the answers you need |
I wish you all the best and I hope your baby stays well:) The other thing I wanted to say is... This person is NOT a breeder!!!!!!! If she was she would be helping this poor girl with her baby:( This woman is a BROKER!!!!!!!!!! That is why she has no idea who the father is. They disgust me:mad: :thumbdown Good Luck:D |
Well the Vet called me last night and would like to try and treat him with some medicine not sure the name of it I'll ask him again and write it down. He said that it wouldn't cure him but maybe help stop all the head tremors. He said while he had him there, he could hardly eat out of the bowl cause he couldn't stop shaking his head.:( I mentioned to all of you before I've been feeding him out of my hand, Anyways I faxed the breeder the info about the Puppy Lemon Law and faxed her all the copies of the invoices I have encurred, She called me right away and oh yea I faxed her the Vet reports, she then asked me if she could just give me back the money for the puppy and not pay all the Vet bills back to me I said yes, I know I am a fool but I just really don't want to deal with her anymore. and I will keep Kipper. She kept telling me should would give me another puppy but I told her I don't want another sick dog. |

Ok, well it sounds like your Vet is trying to do the right thing by him - that's really GREAT! As far as the 'breeder' it's funny how she changed her tone, once she realized you meant businees. I am glad that at least you are getting your money back ;) Keep us posted, but it sounds like you are on a good path :) |
Oh I knew she would call me right away I didn't expect her to change her mind so quickly, but I'm glad she did Thank you so much for all the helpful info!! My Vet is a real good guy, he seems very caring and has been doing research on his end for my Little puppy Kipper, which I'm very grateful for.:) |
