well the shaking is kinda all the time and yes he's going to bathroom fine also. The vet meant just as we would get a bronchial cough/sore throat this time of year, cause he likes to get directly in front of the air conditioner. But why would he be nervous all the time still? I was just guessing about his mood change as far as the hormone comment. |
Well at a year old I would have to say I really doubt it unless he is around females in heat and I didn't get the impression that he was. I hope he gets better soon:) |
If you still don't things are right, I would go to another vet just to get another opinion. May be this vet is over looking something. It maybe an easy fix if you get the right diagnosis. |
I really agree with Lily's mom on getting a second opinion. As far as the airconditioner... I'm not sure neccessarily coming in and out from the heat to an air conditioned room would cause a cold in a pup but a sharp change in body temperature (especially in a pup that has a cold/infection) can cause shakes and shivers. I don't believe hormone imbalance would cause your baby to behave so sickly on it's own, but if you strongly think it's a possibility then it would be a consideration not to rule out the that it could be a hormone imbalance AND a cold/infection. The panting and the shaking may be that his stored energy bank is depleated because of the cold/infection and the medicines. If this is the case I really hope that nutri-cal will help you get your baby stronger. You might want to consider talking to your vet or the new vet about supplementing his diet until he's better especially if he still shows an appetite. Lily's mom is right a second opinion is something you should consider getting. Wishing your baby a speedy recovery!! :getwellso |
[QUOTE=diva pup]My 3 go in and out all day into the AC and they do not get sick, I have NEVER had a dog get sick from that. Not in 25 yrs of owning dogs. This is just my opinion however, you have to do what you feel is best for Spanky. QUOTE] I hope you're not referring to my post because if you go back and read it I did not say that her dog got a cold from coming in and out of the AC. Maybe you were refering to when Spanky's world said: "he gave him a shot and some pills to take said it was nothing any different than what a person would suffer from this time of the year going out and coming back in and getting cool." Which then I think she was just trying to explain that the doctor said that the pup's cold was equivalent to when a human catches a cold in such a way. That's just the way I read it anyway... :) |
I've been doing a little research on the pills he's been taking and I think maybe it has something to do w/that "Delta Albaplex" has anyone ever had any experience with this med? |
Never even heard of it. What exactly is it for? Do you think this is the problem? |
Quote:
INDICATIONS DELTA ALBAPLEX tablets are indicated in the treatment of acute or chronic upper respiratory conditions, ie, tonsillitis, bronchitis, and tracheobronchitis, when it is necessary to initially reduce the severity of associated clinical signs and when caused by pathogens susceptible to novobiocin sodium and tetracycline hydrochloride such as Staphylococcus spp. and E. coli. |
thats the info I found about it also. I kinda do feel like it may be the problem. |

I would find another vet; if yours doesn't know how to take a hipper Yorkies temp without rupturing his colon; Jerry |
I agree totally,I really hate to ever take him back to any vet. |

Dogs do not catch the common cold like people do so frankly if the vet she is using is saying that and making the dog bleed she should seek a different vet.JMO. |
Maybe you should try another vet. If it was a women vet I'd take him to a man this time, and vice-versa. Sometimes they don't like an experience because of the person. |
Piva pup you didn't get what I said in my last post so I will leave it at that. Anyhow, Spanky's world I hope that because of your bad experience with an iffy vet you don't get scared off to ever taking your baby to a vet again. I know some vets are more interested in charging for stuff than the welfare of the animal sadly enough BUT there also are some really great vets out there and once you find one you and your baby will really benefit from it. I have not used DELTA ALBAPLEX and don't know anything about it I read what was posted as far as what it is used for but did you find anything on the side effects? If you can find a new vet in your area, he or she should be able to help you with your questions about what's going on with spanky and even tell you about the medications he is given. A vet not willing to give you paphlets on the meds they use and is quick to rush you off or not answer your questions is not in my opinion the best kind, especially considering how much a trip to the vet can cost! Don't feel bad if Spanky throws the biggest fit in any office. He's your baby and that's thier job to deal with animals with all kinds of tempraments, it's part of what you pay them for. A good office will understand and find a way to help spanky be as comfortable as possible. I think at this point it's your best option to find a new vet JMO. You can ask all these questions in the new office ask about the meds he's on, ask about his symptoms and even pick up your nutri-cal ;) -(It may be possible that he's acting out really bad in the office because he doesn't feel well. Some dogs behave more aggressive than usual when they are sick, in pain or under duress and don't want to be touched)- and that's ok! Poor baby Spanky I hope he gets better soon. |
Just wanted to let everyone know that posted concerns about Spanky,he is sooo much better! In fact he's back to same little guy I had before :p The problem was the pills he was having to take. Thanks to everyone  |
