Wal mart I found original Dawn at Wal Mart. It wasn't easy to find though. It was on like the bottom shelf stuck in the back. It worked like a charm on Lola. |
still no luck Nope, have no old hardware store or the like nearby...all have closed. Very strange - if they still make the original, I don't know why I can't buy it anywhere here. I did think that a store like Family Dollar would have it, but maybe here in the northeast they don't think it will sell?!! |
Fleas/Dawn I can buy some an send to you if you want? Just PM me with your address. Donna |
i had to use the dawn original last night on Cody.. cause he had 2 fleas the day before. it didn't kill them today i found 3 more. i guess i didnt do it right. i just read you have to mix the dawn 50.50 and i didnt... im going first thing in the morning to the vet for advantage they werent open yesterday. |
Tricksie didn't have any for two days, today I found 2 fleas but I can't put advantage on her until the 14th because I used it Dec. 14. I am afraid to use it more often, but on the box it says you can use it more often for lice. |

As for the frontline plaus. Are you buing it from your veterinarian or getting it from a pet store or online? I don't know how true this is, but I have read that if you do not get it from your verteinarian, that it might be old and has lost it potency. I have always had good luck with Frontline plus, purchased from my vet. |
I purchase Frontline from the Vet. I check every inch of her skin but see no bites. Thanks. Happy New Year to everyone while we chat about fleas. |
Hallelujah, Eureka, I found it! I finally found the original Dawn in another Wal-Mart. Not even hidden, prominently displayed near the Ultra Dawn and Dawn with Whatevers. Thanks for your kind offer to send it. I haven't used it yet, but since the Proticall I use from the vet doesn't seem to prevent reinfestation or even kill the things, I am glad there's something else. I put the 20 Mule Team in the carpets but evidently didn't leave it there long enough - people are saying 24 hours??? I am beginning to think I will never, ever get rid of these fleas! All power to Dawn original! Sargie and CAS |
I am glad you found it. It worked for me one time when Chachi had fleas. Be sure to condition the coat well after using it because the dawn can dry the coat out |
It did not work for me and Tricksie is NEVER in the yard and I have no fleas in the house, I find 2 or 3 on her every day. |
My husband (who sells auto parts) sells a product called The Scrubber. It is all natural, biodegradable with NO phosphates. It is made from Oranges. I was told to try some on my dogs. Well fleas are gone, dogs smell great and best thing is it is good for so much more. If you have a bee sting, a burn, apply some and it goods so well. I swear by this product! You can even clean your laundry!:D |
I heard the blue dawn was the best for fleas, i tried it with my Pit Bull when he was 6 weeks and it worked great. |

Info from my vet: Our Recommended Flea Program: You must treat your pets, house and yard! First is to give ALL your pets a capstar tablet once weekly. This will kill all adult fleas on your pet at that time. This tablet only lasts for 24 hours. ALL pets, indoor and outdoor, need to be given this tablet weekly. Next step is to apply a topical flea prevention. The over the counter medications are not as effective as veterinary based products. Our recommendations are the Frontline products or the Advantage products. During the flea season or your flea problem we recommend to apply Frontline every 3 weeks. This product that you use must be applied to ALL pets, indoor and outdoor. Once you have applied your topical prevention it is best to spray your pets as needed, each time you see a flea with Ovitrol spray. This spray can be used as a light mist any time you may see a flea on your pet . It is not necessary to saturate your pet with this product. Now it's time to treat your house! We recommend to purchase Ecktokyl House Spray. Prior to spraying your carpets, vacuum first and immediately take the vacuum bag outside and to the trash. DO NOT KEEP IN YOUR HOUSE! This bag will contain flea eggs, larvae and even some adults! Once your bag is safely outdoors, begin spraying the areas that your pets have contact with. Carpets, beddings, furniture, etc. Finally, it's time to treat the yard! We recommend to treat with a product called Diatomaceous Earth ("D.E."). This product kills the soft-bodied larvae and is non-toxic to our pet friends. Once you have completed the above, you must maintain all your pets on a monthly flea prevention to help keep your environment flea free! |
Flea/Dawn dish detergent I have tried Advantage and Frontline, our home has tile floors except in the bedrooms. Tricksie never runs in the yard but she still got a few fleas. Took her to the Vet today and they put her Comfortis, a pill to take once a month. |
