You will have to find what is best for your dog kind of on a trial and error basis. When you decide to make a switch, I would recommend doing it gradually rather than all at once. How your dog (and his tummy and therefor poop) will just depend on your dog--vairious foods does not have the same effect on every dog accross the board. Some do better on the top brand organic foods, some dog's (like mine:( ) can't handle it. Just do your research and make sure that you supplement his diet as needed to provide for what the food you choose doesn't supply.:) |
You can research dog foods at www.dogfoodanalysis.com This gives a lot of information, but it's not THE only resource out there. I encourage you to do your own research before choosing a dog food, and then you may need to try a couple of brands before you find one that works best for you and for your dog. When you do get onto that site, look for 4 and 5 star foods-the 6 star foods are too rich for yorkies, and are better suited for large working breed dogs. I home prepare meals for my dogs-I feed raw meat, plus a grain and a vegetable, with supplements mixed in. I also give treats of yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, and fruit. If you're looking for a place to start homecooking, check out "Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats". I use this, and so do many other YT members. i would say you should try the NV medillions! both of my girls are on it! they are thriving! it is not costly at all, like wylie's mom said i spend about 30 a month on their raw..i just recently giving them young turkey necks every couple of days..they love it! oh, you will love cleaning up the poo since they poop alot less on raw and they are sooo tiny. i do give them kibbles couple of times a week though, i use Orijen six fish, which they love! but i hate cleaning up when they have kibbles since their poos are bigger than usual and smells more. also, my girls don't have bad doggy smell or breath since they started raw! |
