What Heartworm Medication? Shame to say but Pepper has never been put on heartworm pill... After this year's booster shots he had his blood tested for heartworm and can start the pills anytime. I know I can order them cheaper online for cheaper than my vet charges...What kins though? I understand he needs to take 1 pill every 30 days? Thanks! |
skoshi and kiele are on interceptor |
I give mine Sentinel. Molly was on it when she was pregnant and it covers fleas too. |
i recommend interceptor. when did he have the test done? if it was a few months ago and he hasn't been on a monthly pill then i'd just wait till april. Do the test again, and then put him on the heartworm preventative right away. |
My 3 are on Revolution but that is topical and takes care of a few other things too. My Bull Terrier is on Heart Guard but the smallest does is UP TO 25 lbs I think that is to much for my littl ones. |
Conner is on Heartguard. It is up to 25 pounds, so my vet recommends a half a Heartguard a month. It lasts me a year!!! |

You are exactly right, Heartguard can't be cut. As a rule, only pills that are scored in half have the medication evenly distributed and can be cut. That applies to human medicine, too. Lady gets Interceptor. She has seizures and it is the safest one for her. Heartguard supposedly has been known to lower the seizure threshold. |
Thanks guys! He had the blood test a week ago... I checked 1800petsmeds and they have the Interceptor for dogs up to 10 lbs.. I guess that's the one :) |

When I gave it to my dogs I used heartguard. However, I took my dogs off of it, and instead just get them tested every 6 months. I'd rather not put all those chemicals into my dogs. |
