Yogurt
 
ok... my 2yr old feed teeny tiny Gigi Yogurt off his spoon night before last. She loved it! So I gave her some that night and again last night...w/ cottage cheese. It is organic baby cereal and yogurt combo...

Is this okay?

She is like a different dog! Running around.... draging mark by his socks...lol... did she just come to her own... or maybe that balanced her dig. track? weird....

I give Lucy cottage cheese all the time ::) For some reason she doesn't care for yogurt...

If you are doing yoghurt do not do cottage cheese at the same feeding. Yoghurt is a Probiotic and is the VERY best thing you can feed your pet but in moderation

The vet said lowfat vanilla yogurt, about a teaspoon is about all they should have of it a day..

My Chloe has a stomache issue and she is on yougart every day it keeps her regular. Vet said it has good bacteria.

Live natural yogurt is great for them, it contains fantastic good bacteria and probiotics.

I feed :animal36 Rockie low fat cottage cheese every morniing and evenings with his Royal Canin.

Are you sure your vet said vanilla? Flavored yogurts have more sugar in them or are sweetened with artificial sugars. Sugar is very bad for dogs and the artificial sweeteners are toxic to them. I've always been told to give them only plain yogurt.

The best yogurt to give them is Stonyfield Organic Low-Fat Plain Yogurt. It has the most live active cultures of any yogurt and is very good for their digestion as long as you don't give too much. You might have to look for it at your grocery, it usually is not with the regular yogurt. Sometimes it is with the fruits and vegatables or in a separate health section.

My vet strongly agrees with giving yogurt. Low-fat flavors are okay as long as there is no artificial sweetner. I go between plain and vanilla - depends on what is available. If I can't find Stoneyfield, I will also use Dannon Naturals. My girls get yogurt for breakfast each morning. They get about a tablespoon.

Sorry, meant to say plain, low fat/no fat..Sorry, have had a lot on my mind!! but, only a teaspoon..I also give my the low fat cottage cheese occasionally(about a teaspoon)..

Yep:) I haven't given mine yogurt yet, but I have given them cottage cheese. They liked it.

I agree, and this is what I do also. I give mine 1 tsp. every other day and sometimes put a little fresh berries in it. Jake doesn't care for yogurt much, but Jackson loves it.

For some reason, I am always confusing vanilla and plain! I always have to double check myself at the store to make sure I have plain and not vanilla! You'd think I could just read the container, LOL.

well... I wasn't sure if the cereal was ok... but I had to give it to my skin baby to keep him regular... so of course pup got feed it... and she is now at the fridge begging for it. It is amazing how fast they learn ... I mean I fed it twice... and she already knows it comes out of the fridge? I don't even think she was in there when I got it....lol... she must have been watching....

cottage cheese... it is so gross the way it gets in their hair... I can't stand to touch the stuff... but I hold my nose and clean it out of her whiskers...lol

Maybe I said that because that's the flavor I love, but, not in the low fat..:)

I just started feeding my girls the Stonyfield Farm organic Tobaby yogurt in the 6 pack........3 pear and 3 peach. They have two other flavors as well. It's so delicious and contains live cultures which are very important. They love this much better than the regular yogurt I was giving them.

Just an FYI, too much sugar ISN'T good for pups, yes, but the tiny amount of yogurt they would consume per day really wouldn't make much difference. I know a couple of YT members that feed their dogs flavored ones very occasionally and also the added fruit ones too. I was only doing plain, but I got set straight that it would be no big deal if I used a flavored or fruit-added one instead.

Also there is GREEK yogurt (the brand I know of is Greek Goddess) that is a thicker consistency and had many less calories. That's what I eat and I think it's great.....fig flavored, mmmmm! Anyway, they have plain and vanilla too, as well as other flavors (pomegranate for one), so you may want to try that for variety. I get it in the organic section of my grocery store.

I take the Dannon Natural plain yogurt, drain it for 24 hours using coffee filters-- it thickens similar to Greek yogurt, but has no sugar or flavoring. Draining thickens it up, and makes it milder (whey is removed). The love it-- I give them a spoon (small) every morning.

Yeah, I get the plain Greek yogurt for her...the yummy flavors are for me ;) though I wouldn't be opposed to giving her the vanilla every now and then...the other flavors, e.g. fig, I'm not sure whether they're ok for dogs?? I'm pretty sure the pom is NOT ok.

I've tried all the Greek yogurts (all flavors) I buy from Trader Joes. I have very healthy dogs that have never been sick and believe me, they are chow hounds and love this baby yogurt and have no problems with it. ;)
